Default 1976 Sanyo Comet II - What does this component do?

I have a 1976 Sanyo Comet II that I recently repaired. It works well now but there is one component I just don't understand. If you look into the machine from the back and look at where the flipper is mounted (The lever in the front that you pull down on to launch the balls) there is a small white plastic boomerang that is connected to a lever that is connected to a rod that goes into the downspout that leads to the lower ball tray. Inside that downspout there is a vertical plastic piece. So when the player pulls down on the lever to shoot the ball the parts move and cause that verticle piece to move inside the downspout just a little bit.

I have no idea what this could possibly be for.

If my description doesn't make sense I'll post some pictures.

    Thanks.

Thanks for answering so quickly. After posting this question I found a youtube video that explained the purpose of this. When used in Pachinko parlors the chute can actually become full of balls. This vertical piece in the chute is pressed by the balls and then causes the machine not to allow any more balls to be played.

The guy who posted the video said that in home use you can remove the entire thing because you are never going to have that many balls in that chute

Nothing ever needs to be removed on a machine. Granted some parts will never be used for home use. But nothing will ever have to be removed in order to get a machine working properly.

    100 machines and counting...

I agree. I think he was just saying you could remove it not that you should.

Too many reward balls in front top tray, the reward balls overflow to the bottom front tray.
Too many reward balls in front bottom tray, the reward balls back up and engage this shooting handle lock out.

I believe Max measured this quantity on the model B?

There must have been a way to cheat if this happened? Only an older pachinko expert would know. Someone in the parlours in the 70's.

I see. So this is for that guy who wins a lot of balls but never clears pulls them out of the bottom tray. Rather than have them back up into the machine it stops letting him play.

Man that was awhile ago. I believe you had to have around 700 balls total crammed into both trays.
