I was told, "18 inches or 15 inches... what's the difference?"
Area wise it's huge difference, OK, they are not square but a 15" across diagonal square has an area of approx 112 sq in, an 18" across diagonal square has approx 161 sq in, nearly 50 square inches more pixels or 44%. Best to win the thing for $180 and roll up with $150 ... saying what's the difference

RKnarr01 said :.....I contacted my guy in japan and he has never heard of these being on cruise ships either so that basically confirms that its a myth

Yep but it will be used on Ebay as will Pachislos being "Slot Machines from Casinos"(another Myth)...oh well this is where pachitalk.com comes in handy in that it helps point out these advertising claims that are made daily on Ebay.

Every vendor "stretches" the truth in advertising, but these guys are getting a tad bit out of control. When you sell 7 in one month and claim only 7 were sold all last year and only 550 manufactured, stretching had become lying and deceptive. I just feel bad for the poor saps whom believe all that bologna.

Lew... I don't understand what you are getting at with the Casino term?? I say "Japanese Casinos" in my ads. The definition of Casino is:

A public room or building for gambling and other entertainment.

From what I've seen, the definition fits exactly. Am I missing something?

It does not fit the definition as gambling is illegal in Japan and they do not call the parlors casinos. The use of the term Slot Machines from Casinos for Pachislos is very misleading. But I imagine no dealer could sell them as Japanese Pachislos from Japanese Parlors on Ebay anyway so that is why the dealers say whatever they want to say. It ties in very well with what this thread originally was talking about as this dealer uses it all the time along with lots of other underhanded statements.

ZCore13 I did not realize you were using that term also but I guess you might as well as everyone else says it also. We here in pachitalk land of course understand that the words "Slot Machine" and "Casino" are very enticing words to newbies on Ebay that think(ignorant as they are) they are getting Slot Machines from real Casinos.

I would think the term arcade would fit better(instead of casino) as tokens are played and tokens are exchanged for prizes just like arcades here in USA do. The cash for the prize part comes into play only outside of the parlor and is a illegal activity in Japan but apparently "backs are turned" when it happens.

As far as any casino having pachislos : I have written most of the dealers on Ebay asking them what casino etc and either haven't received responses or they just say that their secret supplier told them that.

I have liked your ads and auctions and if I were you I wouldn't change them as your competitors sure aren't going to change theirs .And if anything, they will be adding more misleading terms as time and Ebay allows.

After reading this the day before, I went to Yahoo Japan Auction and opened every Pachislo auction to see if any said from "Casinos or Cruise Ship casinos".
Not one said anything even close, Some used the terms: Store, Parlor, Stand, home and Hall.
I have been reading the auctions on yahoo for the last 6 weeks, not once seen "from Casinos or Cruise Ship casinos".
    It is smoke and mirrors.

ZCORE - I can agree with your definition of a casino. I usually spend my summers in Egypt and there are buildings all around that are called "Casinos" in blazing lights and there is no gambling of any kind going on in them. They are basically just social buildings used for many different things. There are however a scarce few real "Casinos" that are there for tourism purposes...Egyptians not allowed to enter. The real misleading thing is that when we hear the term Casino, we automatically associate it with a gaming hall because we don't use this word to represent social halls.

Good point dattia... and it goes along with the actual definition of casino:

"A public room or building for gambling <b>AND OTHER ENTERTAINMENT</b>"

I think that describes the Japanese "Parlor" better than the definition of parlor, which is:

    Parlor

    1. A room in a private home set apart for the entertainment of visitors.
    2. A small lounge or sitting room affording limited privacy, as at an inn or tavern.
    3. A room equipped and furnished for a special function or business: a tanning parlor.

With the Japanese laws not allowing "gambling" AND the government turning their heads on the exchanging of prizes for money AND the pachislo's being made as "skill stop" machines even though we know the computer chip in them controls everything and will not allow you to "skill stop" it if it doesn't want you to, I think they are using the smoke and mirrors at a pace just under Pachinko_Pallace and their auctions

Lew, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on the terminology, but I'll still wear the shirt you gave me proudly

It seems they (people in the trade) use Store more than anything else.

Because the newer ones have other thing attached to them, day care, village meeting rooms, clothing stores, etc.

I think some leeway should be given to the vendors as far as terms such as "casino" or "slot machine". Let's face it, those terms are going to get alot more hits in Ebay searches than "parlor" or "pachislo". As long as the vendors are not lying about the machines (e.g. "converted to tokens") I see nothing wrong with using more Americanized terms to attract traffic. Just my 2cents worth.
