I quit after my Mom died from smoking. No brainer, right!?
What kept me off for the last 4 years was about 2 weeks after I quit I was standing in a book store parusing when this stench hit me. I looked around & there was this attractive woman standing there. We both made the pleasant smile at each other & then I scuttled away from her stanky self asap!
I swore then & there I would never smoke another stank stick & have someone think of me the way I thought of her!

Thanks for sharing doodude, I would have replied sooner but I felt the sudden need to shower, brush my teeth, deodorize, powder and perfume myself. Sorry about your Mom. However it happened, I am glad that you were able to kick your habit.

I started smoking when 15 years old. Smoking wasn't considered so bad back in the late 50's early 60's -- in fact, it was stylish... anyhow, when I started, I swore to my parents (yes, they knew I smoked at that age) that I would quit at 40.

I was a 3 pack a day guy for 25 years and very addicted and on my 40th birthday I smoked the last one and never another. It was HARD, too. VERY, VERY hard. (I also bet nearly $1000 to several friends that I would never restart -- that helped!!!) I dreamed about smoking for 8 years after that, but always resisted the urge to restart. Now have been cig free for 19 years and no longer dream about them.

What willpower!!! Good thing you resisted that urge...because that is what got me..3 times. Of course I always had the urge but in a weak moment, I thought just one puff................

I'm getting to that point...again...where I am seriously thinking about quitting. I'm starting to awaken myself coughing at night, some nights.

That what the story was meant to do, my dear!
Like Slotter, I started at 15 smoking my Moms Salem menthols. It was considered, if not cool, then at least an acceptable way of relaxing.
But kicking the habit is one of the toughest things youll ever do! I had a very personal incentive to help me or Id still be going at it too. I actually did quit before . About 10 different times. They ( whoever they are ) say it takes at least 5 tries before you make it.
Im pulling for you if you try. If you dont, its your life & Im still pulling for you!

We all have stories about smoking but mine ended when I watched someone very close to me that had smoked all their life lying in the hospital bed gasping for air with nothing to be done to save their life. This person's death changed a lot of people I know forever.

If all us sinners (smokers and drinkers) the government would grind to a halt, without our sin tax on booze and tobacco. You would be paying double the taxes you are.
So all non-smokers and drinkers should thank us.

Ah, good ol' socialist security. Pays you just enough to keep your head bobbing above the water when you're drowning. Wish I had been working for Galveston County when the employees opted out of the system. Those folks get 3 to 5 times what I get!
