Just about done with this. Want to thank you all who provided the great advice. Having mxfaiman's nail tool was a big time saver (even though I broke it) .

For my first one, I think it went rather well. Definitely learned quite a bit. Not really hard, but it is labor intensive. I would definitely do another one, though.

    Obligatory before and after shot.

That background suits that round center very well!

Thanks for the offer, but it was totally my fault. I'm a bit heavy handed with things, and drove a nail down too hard which pinched it. When I tried to pull it out it snapped straight across the vertical part that comes up. After finishing the nails, I took some gorilla glue and filled both sides into the honeycomb and stuck it back together. Should be good as new now.

That's really cool, but I don't have that technology.

Sending out a call for help on this...

I sat down to play this for a while, and the play field seems to be too far away from the door.

The shot balls are leaving the track before they get to the top and hitting in front of the swing on the right side.

I took the back mechanisms off, and tried adjusting the distance of the field (evenly and unevenly). I also tried adjusting the guide tracks to no avail.

The cell can only be moved a small amount, in or out, until the shooter spring hits the ball cradle.

Really has me stumped. It didn't do this before, so I can't figure out what is different.

Has anybody ran into this issue before?

If someone could post some dimensions on the cell position for a Comet II that would be great! (i.e. depth to cell face from window frame, etc.)

Thanks for the measurements. I measured mine, and it's a negligible difference to what you are showing.

I pulled the cell just to check the spacer wood, and found 2 spike nails sticking up that I didn't realize were there. I hammered them down, but it didn't make any difference when I put it back together.

I set the shooter tension spring for a softer hit, and that seems to help. At least now the balls won't hammer the right side plastic.

I'll put the back tracks and such on tomorrow, and that's how it's going to stay since it plays fine other than that.

Maybe I'll find another Comet II frame and swap the cells some day.

    Thanks again for the help!

Here we are again... I just couldn't let it rest, so before putting it back together I decided to try one more thing.

I took it out to the shed, set up some height blocks, and took a router to the frame spacers.

After making them the same all around (it WAS thicker at the top), I put it back together, and the problem is gone.

Glad that I didn't give up on it!

This thread can fade into obscurity now.
