Cool Machine, why the 2 holes in the front?
Could be right! When I started this thread, I did not know what catagory to put it in...since there is a vintage, early modern and modern. Since the trip was for Yellow Cab, and Monroe was an extra to help soothe the sting of all those miles, and the Narita came FedEx as I was walking out the door...I decided to put it up in the modern forum. It does show up on the home page with new posts...so, anyone can see it, so I thought some vintage buff would see it. I'll start a new thread on each (in the proper sections ) because each has it's own fans.
The Narita is a single shot machine with the traditional hole in the frame to feed balls. If you watch old parlor videos on YouTube, you will see players with their right hand working the flipper, with the left hand crossed over the right feeding a fist full of balls as fast as they can shoot. The hole in the door has a flange to help guide the ball screwed to it.2050-12-31 23.59.59-142.jpg You can feed the balls through either one. the one in the door keeps you from having to cross your arms, and...probably more importantly, it takes less time for the ball to fall to the shooter, so you can play faster.2050-12-31 23.59.59-147.jpg As you can see, the plastic ramp from the frame hole is almost flat at the top and the ball rolls slower until it falls to the shooter. The hole in the door has a much steeper angle, so the ball travels faster...even though the distance of travel is almost the same. I have tested both, and the door hole is faster.
It is not the only machine I have seen do that. I have a Heiwa that has the same flange. 2013-10-26 22.02.34.jpg The door also is backed with wood on the Heiwa. 2013-10-26 22.00.52.jpg I can't remember if the hole in the frame was covered or not.
