I was using a 10.0 UVB reptile bulb and the Salon Care 40 volume developer cream.

Don’t use the cream, you can get the same strength in clear. I’m not saying that’s the definite issue here but you don’t want the opacity of the cream version to interfere with uv absorption.

for pieces like that, I always placed the part in a container and lined the outside with foil to reflect as much light back onto the part and then submerged in in the liquid version of retrobrite. only for really large pieces did I use the thick version.

Have you had success getting rid of the yellow on this particular part?

no, not that part as i've only used retrobrite for arrangeball restorations but the process has always worked for me from pretty good to as-new results. the key thing is that the discoloration must be from bromine liberation and not some other form of staining. in your case it could be that not enough time was allowed, its not bromine discoloration, cream as opposed to clear peroxide was used, etc.
if you know what you're ddoing, plastic can be painted to where it's impossible to tell it's been painted. i did this to an arrangeball machine and it turned out pretty damn amazing especially compared to it's original condition. but it took tons of prep on the plastics, use of an adhesion promoter, etc.

Very nice! Was that done using just Retrobrite, or paint?

Ok, I was going to say, WOW! You really removed the yellow with retrobrite! Regardless, it looks great. I did a second round of retrobrite on the parts and this time let it sit overnight, probably 18 hours total. It got a little whiter, but it seems like it is either going to be a very slow process, or the plastic can't be changed. Oh well! I've done the best I can. The machine isn't a restoration that I would sell anyway because it is my first one (nostalgia) and its also my "test" machine to try different techniques on.

there's no guarantees obviously but good on you for trying. i think i painted the above machine's plastics because t wasnt aware of retrobrite yet but i'm not sure. even if i knew about it i probably still would have painted for a couple of reasons. first is there were at least 9 pieces and i wanted them to all be the same original color and with retobrite thats not always going to happen. also, the ashtray was damaged from cigarettes so i had to grind out those areas and fill in with plastic filler and that can only be hidden with paint.

So I’ve been tearing apart my machine and cleaning along the way. I used rust dissolver on some of the hardware and something unexpected happened. The metal parts that looked bronze turned to regular gray metal. Anyone know why that is??

The bronze colouring was likely an anti-rust coating that the rust dissolver has removed

Yeah the bronze color was an anti-rust coating. We normally hit our parts with a coat of either polyurethane or clear spray paint to give them some protection again.
