Default This one is a keeper! Vintage Sanyo Comet II

I just finished restoring the fifth of five machines I recently purchased. I saved the best 'til last!
    Sanyo Comet II - 1976
The machine was in pretty good shape when I got it but I did a complete overhaul anyway as I wanted this one to be as good as I could get it.

I've included some pictures of the finished machine below.

    DSC_0001.JPGDSC_0002.JPGDSC_0003.JPGDSC_0004.JPGDSC_0006.JPG

    Now I need some help.....
This machine was originally restored by "The Switch Doctor" and I'm assuming he is the one that removed some of the parts that I will be asking about.

If you look at the pictures below, you will see that he defeated the "ball out" mechanism. The rod from the upper hopper is missing and the piece inside the ball handler that it interfaces with has also be removed. The other picture shows another missing piece. I know what it is/does but hard to describe it so I'll let the pictures "talk".
The removal of these parts doesn't affect the gameplay but it would be nice to have them.
If anybody out there has a Sanyo Comet II parts machine, please let me know.

    Thanks

Nice job! I'll bet that machine didn't look that good the day it was built.

I just finished putting a piece of glass into this machine, replacing the existing plexiglass. Does make a big difference in the sound of the balls banging around!

MagicDan, I have a comet II that I am working on...would you be able to post/send me a close up of the electrical area and how you wired that up with the new plug? I probably need to do the same. I will also have some questions on the seesaw area and payout mechanism for you at a later date if you don't mind.

The old glass vs plexiglass debate....

Personally I run plexi in all my machine and for my customers. Safer cause you don't have to worry about cracking from being knocked over or potentially by a rouge ball. Plus it is also quieter. That and I never liked the tink sound of the balls on the glass.

    100 machines and counting...

Just curious. Never heard of Facebook marketplace. We have a local town garage sale page so I assume it's something like that.

Be glad to help any way I can. Here's a pic of my electrical area. The original setup utilized two "D" cell batteries. I removed that and substituted a 9V adapter which I use on all my machines. I just unsoldered the connections and removed the battery pack. The I put terminals on my wire leads from the adapter and soldered them to the same pins. IMG_3691.JPGIMG_3692.JPG

    Hope this helps.

I agree with all your points. I just read somewhere that "somebody" said purists wanted glass. I just decided to try it on this machine I'm keeping. Not sure if I'll keep it....

    SACRILEGE!

Double sheets of glass is the way to go! If it's leaning back a few degrees, like it's supposed to, it's not as much an issue. Plus the excitement of 'Man, is that glass gonna break?!'

I am a glass man. I prefer the tink of the ball on glass to the thunk of a ball on plexi. I find the sound very hypnotic and relaxing while to some others it may sound like fingernails on a chalkboard. I never ship a machine with glass though. I replace it with plexi and add the glass to my collection.

I have a Comet II. Not a parts machine...but I can post some pics of the area in question. Not sure if it is complete or correct. It is a machine I had to buy as a 3 machine package in order to get a PowerFlash.

Dumb question, I'm sure...but does using a double pane of plexi dampen the sound at all?

It would dampen the sound more than a single pane, or glass, or a pane of plexi, and a pane of glass. Short answer; yes.

Quiz - What's the reason for the double pane of glass?

Anti-cheating, sound attenuation, and safety as far as I know.
