Default New Machine - Derby King - Help with Ball Launcher

    https://imgur.com/a/XxIlh

Helped a couple with their Vintage machine and they gave me this.

I cleaned it up a bit, TONS of balls jamming the machine up.

I tested all the contacts, everything looks like it is working, except for a broken bit of plastic on the ball out switches, no problem to fix.

The problem is that the ball shooter doesn't work. I don't know if it is broken or if it isn't getting enough power. I have to hold down the ball out switches to get the launcher to work. When I turn the knob I can hear the motor moving, but it is a grindy kind of noise. If I move the firing lever with my fingers while I have the shooter turned It will move a little on its own but it doesn't complete the move. I can hear the transformer click when I turn the knob.

Anyone have any advice on the shooter?

    Thanks,

    RW

Oh that clicking is coming from a little, I guess it is a relay, on a tiny little circuit board. The board is about 2 inches long, has a bunch of little caps on it and the rest is heavily masked. I guess it is the dongle.

There is also a large VAC capacitor in there as well. I assume it is for the motor. I don't know how to test it, but I suppose it could be bad as well. I think the motor does not have enough torque to pull the lever back.

A pic of the back and the offending area would be a help. Is there a gearbox? Any way to take that apart and check for bad gears?

    No dongle on that model.

I can post more pics when I get home.

There is a motor that is hooked into a gearbox. I took it apart. I can see into the box and I can see all the gears inside, the gears all turn, it is lubricated, best I can tell they all have all their teeth. The motor and all the gears all turn when the launcher is turned.

Under load though the little arm on the front of the motor\gearbox doesn't push the launcher arm. You can hear a grinding sound coming from the motor.

Sounds like something stripped. Either on the cam. Or internally

    Here are more pics

I am pretty sure the problem is in the motor itself. If I turn the motor on and grab the little gear it sticks and makes a grindy noise.

The gearbox seems fine. If I jam the gears and put a little pressure on the end it does stick, so I don't think that the problem is there.

I am thinking that somehow I am going to have to replace the motor. Problem is that someone neglected to fill in the sticker for the voltage, Watts, Hertz or RPMs (though there is an orange sticker on it that says "50 hertz" on it so...) and AC isn't my thing so I am not sure how to figure it out.

    OK I fixed it.

Bad motor. Inside the motor is a tube made of permanent magnet. Going through the tube is a white plastic cylinder. Going through the cylinder is the shaft that drives the gears. That plastic cylinder is supposed to be stuck to the magnet so that the shaft can turn when the magnet turns. The cylinder was only sticking to the magnet tight enough to turn the gear, but once you put a load on the gear the cylinder was slipping inside the magnet, causing the gear to stop turning and the motor to make a horrible grindy noise.

I put a few drops of glue on the plastic cylinder and glued it to the inside of the magnet.

I then reassembled everything and tested. The ball launcher now works.

    Final question...

I don't know if this is the "correct" way to fix a motor like this, I just know it solved my problem. Should I be worried about anything "bad" happening?

Keep an eye on that guy in North Korea. Other than that you should be fine.

Sounds good to me. If the noise returns. Then you may have to look for a more extreme fix.

I have been doing some further testing on it and the only thing now is, I thought that the way the ball launchers worked is the more you rotate the knob the more force is applied to the balls. This thing seems more like an on\off. It shoots the balls at the same amount of force no matter how far the knob is turned.

Is there something I am missing or is this the way it is supposed to wor?

    Thanks

I think the black knob next to the shooter motor is an adjustment for the shooter strength.

    押 Charge

    右弱 Right Weak

    左強 Left Strong

Thats done it. The knob was all the way to the other side.

I was wondering what that was for..

Thanks for the help guys, I think I am in business!
