Default Powerflash AC or DC source preference

    Hello,

Regarding the Nishjin Powerflash I am working on:

The rectifier is toast, O VDC output.

    Question:

Is it preferable to fix the rectifier and use 24VAC or can I bypass it all together and use a 24VDC source?

If fix, does anyone have the replacement part for the diodes?

    If 24VDC, recommendations on a 24VDC source?

    Thank you.

I have often wondered that myself! Seems like if all the diodes did were convert AC to DC, then why not use 24VDC to power everything? Sadly, I don't know.
    By the way...to Pachitalk!

It's really a matter of choice. I prefer the AC route so I can use a center tap transformer and use the 12 volts for the lights.

Standard rectifier diodes would/should work as long as they will handle the current draw. I use a 2 Amp transformer so this would work 1N4004.

i prefer the original for the same reason i have been verry verrrrry lucky and only has one that had a bad diode..

pluss i just like machines that are original..

there was a post several years back when a member used a computer power supply for his power flash.. ya might search power flash or power flush and see if ya can find it..

I would use the original setup as well. If for no other reason, it's cheaper to replace diodes than to buy another power supply.

Thank you for your input. Keeping the original setup makes sense. Will let you know how things go.

    Update:

Received the diodes and replaced the rectifier. Good voltage without the load hooked up.

Hooked it up and found the middle solenoids constantly activated.

Disconnected the wires from the middle micro switch and found the switch read closed. Didn't want to but I removed the plastic cover to check the switch.

The switch is good, but the paddle (?) that activates the switch was for some reason pushing the switch. I think over time it just was pushed down. I filed the contact point down (plastic) to create seperation. Works well.

Just thought about taking pics, oh well. Next weekend I start putting it back together.
