Default US to UK transformer question Daiichi Hyper Passion

    Hi everyone,

I own a Daiichi Hyper Passion machine that was wired for North America. I've since moved to the UK and brought the machine with me. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on the machine's voltage/watt specifications, so I don't know what sort of power transformer I'd need. I know that the hyper passion is a fairly common machine, so if anyone has any information that could help, I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

The machine should have a data plate on it telling you what the current spec is.

If your machine is exactly as it was when you plugged it in to the US 110v wall outlet. You can buy a 300w 230-110v transformer in maplins. Then just plug it straight in as it has the right socket on it already

I thought hyper passion was a Pachinko

Thank you very much for this! First, you are correct. My apologies, I should have been more mindful and put this in the Pachinko Tech Support forum, I must have overlooked that.

I've not altered the machine, but my understanding is that the Japanese transformer was exchanged for a North American one. That said, it was my understanding that Japanese functioned on the same electrics standards as North America? Although a summary search suggests that Japan uses 60Hz whereas the US functions on 50Hz. By no means am I an electrical engineer, so I thought this would be the best place to ask.

I will certainly look for the plate. Some labelling is present, but it's naturally written in Japanese, so this might take some effort. In any case, thank you very much for your help!

    No problem. Thread moved.

All modern pachinkos run off a 24vac supply but the current used is a lot higher on the newest models. Somewhere on the plastic covers you should see a va number. For that one it would probably be about 100-150va

If you still have the US 110v to 24v transomer. I would advise removing it for a 230 to 24 v transformer. As I don't know the spec I wouldn't like to provide a link. But I get mine from either Rs components or Farnells.

Remember safety is paramount. Mains voltage can kill.
Oh if you can post sime pics that would be helpful (smaller than 2mb)

Japan uses 50 Hz, US is 60 Hz.

Hi everyone, thank you very much for your help. I did some research, and confirmed the different standards between Japan, the US, and the UK. A US transformer was placed on the machine, which allowed it to be used in the US, functioning from a 3-prong plug. As it turns out, all that was required is a step-down transformer, as suggested by DrunkenClam. It cost 40GBP, and was well worth it, considering the alternative of rewiring. The machine functions well again (after 6 years), but it seems one of the blue lights is burnt out in the facing. Nevertheless, it's up and running. I've placed a maneki-neko and the nixie clock on the top of the case, just to concentrate as much electronic tackiness in one area. I'm very pleased to have this up and running again, and I'm certain that my neighbours are as delighted as I am.

    Thanks again!

Glad you got it running. Ouch I'm sure those transformers were only £30 last time I brought one.

Of course! I know that Hyper Passion isn't the most modern or advanced model, but it was initially rather inexpensive. I've dragged it everywhere over the course of years and it might be one of the only pieces of furniture I've kept since all that time.

I want to get a asahi beer maneki neko. But getting a good price is hard.
Basic can be good. Simple to understand. Less to go wrong. If you want to make it easier to play. I recommend a daverob dongle. Especially if your keeping it and its always against a wall or in a cabinet

I don't play it enough to warrant a dongle I'm afraid. I mostly spent the money because I wasn't able to use it at all for three years or so.

Good looking machine! Now that it's up and running, you might find yourself playing it more than you expected!

Strange i live in Belgium 230v 50Hz , and coincidentally i've noticed this 60Hz sticker on the inside of my Pachinko.
Bought this Pachinko from a Dutch Pachinko importer who also does the conversion from 24v to 230v. Still it runs fine.
Now I wonder if it could do harm to the system ? I guess not ?

In Japan the 100 volt system runs at a Frequency (hertz) of 50/60. I would imagine you are fine having a proper transformer installed.

If the machine ran when you go t, it will continue to run happily. The common issue with frequency differences is when electronics use the input voltage for timing purposes. If you've have no issues, you likely won't.
