Default New member & vintage owner of Nishijin Model C. Identification help?

    Hello all,

When I was around 7 years old in the mid-1980's a friend had a vintage pachinko machine in the garage but no balls. I was fascinated by it but had never played it. Fast forward ~30 years and I came across one while looking for vintage arcade PCBs about a month ago, and that had me hooked to find one. Doing a little research and browsing of Craigslist and eBay the past few weeks, I came across an estate sale last night with a blurry picture of a pachinko that I couldn't identify, other than it being a Nishijin Model C with "Butterfly & Horses" playfield. Tracking down that playfield last night pointed me to a 1978 manufacture date, but still no site could tell me what the center attraction is called.

When I stopped by to take a look today, it seemed it was mechanically in good shape, no rust/pitting, and original wiring in place. Dropped a ball in each of the tulips and jackpot - it's all good to go. Wiring looks to be original Japanese with no connection for battery/input. Also came with the original owner's manual and a small box of a couple hundred balls. Only real downside that I can see is there's some slight water staining around nearly all the brass nails, and my guess is someone used some form of liquid cleaner on them as they're nice and shiny even though it's obvious this thing has never been restored. Does anyone know what this center attraction is called? It's mostly red and looks to have some form of curtains, like a theater, around the bottom left and right sides.. thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like some paint is flaking in a few places. Would love to find another pic of what this should look like and I'll repaint it.

Also need to correct the title.. after looking at the back mechanism, it looks like it's a model B, not C.

Not sure what that center attraction is supposed to represent, but it looks like all of the colors are there to follow if you want to do a paint restoration.

Clearly a model B from the back.. though I haven't seen this one anywhere except for one eBay link. Playfield graphic does seem to be 1978 (52-31) and I highly doubt it was ever replaced, though I can't find any info of a 1978 Model B.

Looks like this is the same one I have:

    to pachitalk!

What you have there is an early 1977 Nishijin Model B (Festival). That word in the () is what I think the theme is, it is a very loosely made term and you an interpret it in your own way.

I haven't seen a machine with that center before. Doesn't make it rare, as it is common to see only a few of certain ones (maybe they didn't sell well ).

If you want to check out various other nishijin model years. (1978 starts page 98).
    http://www.pachinkoboy.com/information/models/

That book is still kinda an ongoing thing I've made so the dates are still kinda loose. Seems towards the end of the 70's models carried over from year to year; like your machine might have. It also wasn't uncommon for parlors to re-register a machine for the next year. (most didn't though.)

I believe they kept the B till 1979 then nixed it in 80.

    100 machines and counting...
