    Default Power cuts out

    Hi All,

I am hoping someone can assist. I have an 'Outlaw' Pachislo that was in storage for a couple of years. Prior to that it worked as you would expect. After coming out of storage, apart from a bit of dust, it all looks ok.

The trouble is, once it is powered on for about 1 minute, maybe 2 minutes, the power seems to cut out from the machine. The lights go out, the speakers click like the power is removed and the coin slot clicks closed so no new tokens can go in. After a couple more clicks from the coin slot, open/close, open/close & and a couple more clicks from the speakers... nothing more. All apart from the light panel at the bottom that is, that has a very feint flicker, but other than that nothing. If the plug is pulled and put back in straight away, there are a couple of clicks from the speakers, but nothing else. If you leave it 10 minutes ish and try again, the same symptoms above apply, after a minute or 2, the power cuts.

I live in the UK with 240V and have been using a transformer to step the power down to 110/120V. The power lead to the Pachislo says 125V - will that make any difference?
Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? It all looks clean, no rust, no degradation.

    I'm hoping you can help.

    Thanks
    Nigel

Japan use 100vac not 125vac. But what your saying sounds like the main power failing. But without a volt meter to confirm. Can't be sure. Do you have another set down transformer you can try.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the responses.
There arent any pictures to show really. One minute it's all lit up, the lights are on, sounds are sounding and the screen shows stuff. The next minute after a pop of the speakers, there is nothing.

I don't have another step down transformer. I bought the one I have here from Amazon thinking 240V to 110/120V would have been ok, maybe it is broken, can't be sure as I dont have anything else 120V to use on it.
Do you think I should get another that steps down from 240V to 100V? The 2 pin (US) plug on the machine has 125V imprinted on it... is that anything to go by? Or is that a generic marking?

    Thanks

I should have also said... this step down transformer says max load: 30VA - is that enough?
    Others I have seen show 45VA & 100VA.

30va sounds way to low. I use the 300w 110v step down transformer from maplins. The square pin plugs straight in.

Some slos are 100v, some are 24v. With a step down transformer inside. Does your lead go all the way to the power box in the bottom of the machine

So, do you think the power supply I have isnt enough?
    Should I get one of these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/240v-120v-S...tage+Converter ?

I would say yes. I know a few of us UKers use them. I have 2 of them to run my slos (one each) it would be a good safe start.

Have you got a pic of the one you are currently using?

Not familiar with this machine but if you feel that 30VA is too low, then the power stepdown may be overloaded and the internal circuit beaker is opening. After cooling, it would reclose.

Reading this link, the transformer appears to take USA 110 voltage and ups it to UK 320 volts, not designed for other way around. this may be your problem. They usually don't work backwards such putting 220 volts into it and getting 110 out. the transformer sounds like it is opening up because of this.

I seem to be having trouble editing my previous post. I meant 230 volts in UK is output wile 110 volts is input

Sorry again, disregard my comments about upping voltage, I see not that those transformers drop from the UK to USA. My first comment is still possible. If your machine is pulling 30 amps, then the internal circuit breaker may be opening and after cooling down, closing again. Check the output amperage and see what It is

The transformer is definately 240v to 110/120V. Re-reading the packaging "for small appliances max load 30VA" - maybe it isnt good enough.

It didnt occur to me that transformer may be circut breaking.
Is 30VA the output amperage? And therefore, I guess I need a 300w 110v step down transformer like Drunkenclam says?

Your machine might still have its data sticker on it, telling you name, serial number voltage and power rating.
Oh. FYI VA = Volt x Amp. so for 30VA you have a max current of 0.27A

I've ordered a new transformer. Hopefully it will make the pachislo work!
I will let you know how it goes...
