Default New guy asking for ID help.

Hello, my name is Mike from Columbus Ohio, and I bought my first pachinko machine from a roadside garage sale today.

I realize that this have been modified to take quarters, which is taboo here, but that's how the machine came to me. I've already taken the clear shield "thing" off of it.

im looking for help finding the manufacture and era of construction so I can begin to restore this machine.

Any my help would be appreciated. I know there's a huge resource of material here on the board, but I'm looking for an "educated starting point" so I don't have to deep dive through EVERYTHING.

    Thanks in advance.

    Mike

What you've purchased is a computer pachinko. Basically you drop a quarter into it and it gives you x number of balls. For each tulip or pay pocket you hit it gives you x number of balls. Each scoring pocket counts as 10 points and at a certain number of points you get a free replay. These were made more to be put into an arcade rather than a pachinko parlor. If everything is in working condition you're probably best off leaving it as is rather than try to figure out how to convert it back to a regular pachinko game. I see working machines advertised on eBay for $500, but don't think they usually sell at the price. I picked one up locally a few months ago for $60, I think. I enjoy playing with the goal of winning a free replay as a change of pace from playing to win more balls.
The machine itself is a mid-70's Nishijin. Search "computer pachinko" and you'll find a number of threads about the type of machine you've purchased.

You don't have to worry about that, that only applies to pachislos paying out quarters, not arcade conversions and such..where the quarters are just to start play!!

    Spider and Gneiss.

thank you both! This exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

i got the machine for $80 yesterday from a roadside stand that was having a yard sale.

ill most likely leave it as is after I clean it up.

    thanks again!

Correct...the shield is to keep players from tampering with the balls. Also keeps people from stealing balls, or adding their own...not that anyone would be walking around with pachinko balls in their pocket!

this is fascinating. I have only seen one pachinko machine in a arcade set up like this. (level 257 in Woodfield Mall for anybody in the chicagoland area) it was a newish machine. Space Batleship Yamato.
