Default New toy - Nishijin A "Bowling"

    Hi all!

I found an old, unloved, quite filthy (but working and cheap!) Nishijin A today. I don't know if it has a specific name, it's pretty generic in all ways other than the center bonus has 5 little bowling pins on a hangar so it must be some kind of bowling theme. This guy's going to take a little more work to clean up than the other one I scored a couple of months ago... the metal rods in back are slightly rusty from being stored most likely in a really humid place, and all the mechanisms are a little cranky because of it. Playfield doesn't look too bad though and all the tulips and payouts work, so at least I've got that going for me.

I don't really have any questions about it, I just wanted to bubble about it to someone who might actually appreciate it.

    Joe

My normal collecting hobbies are pinball machines and classic arcade machines. In that restoration world, there's the concept of a "protective layer of filth" - I've bought machines that were in such filthy grimy and even corroded shape that I was expecting to have to part them out (and bought them with that intention), but when I got them apart and actually took to cleaning them, on more than one occasion I found a quite nice (and occasionally near-perfect) machine protected from the elements by the filth.

This weekend's pachinko find is the same thing. When I got it it was FILTHY. Like the trays and raceways were so dirty you couldn't actually roll a ball down them (I tried). I took it out of it's frame and laid it out with the expectation of having to strip it completely down to clean it and get it to work.

Boy, was I wrong. a handful of wet wipes and the back side of this thing cleaned up like nobody's business. Feeds and flips like a champ, everything works perfectly.

I hit the front once lightly and took 90% of the crud off of it, I need to go over the grooves and details with some q-tips but thats a job for another day.

    Joe

PS I got pics to come out right this time!
