Talking First Vintage, hey, First Pachinko!

I'm a pinball guy, but decided to get into Pachinko. I got my first machine tonight, Sankyo Butterflys. It was very thoroughly packed and works perfectly.

Pretty fun game, I like the simplicity. Noisy, though!

I'll be getting a 2015 Star Wars some time soon, to keep this one company!

By the way, what's the best type of basket to keep the balls from spilling on to the floor. I'm afraid the cats might get hold of a stray ball.

A simple plastic food storage container from your local Target or similar store usually works well. They also include lids so you can keep dust from settling on the balls. I usually use one that is slightly oversized and support the backside with a piece of wood the same thickness as the machine's frame.

I have some cheap food storage containers like in the link below. Most stores around me have a variety of shapes and sizes. I use these for keeping out humidity, dust, cat hair, and the cat who will steal balls to play with. When others come to play this is a good starter amount of 1200 balls for the modern machines.

I did buy some similar to these, but the round ones don't work to well for me. The height was good, but there were still balls that managed to escape. And that is what worries me. I have three cats, and my baby girl found a stray ball last night. I'm worried they may try to eat them!

Definitely a concern with kids and pets. That is why I use the containers to keep the cat out and my grand children safer when they are visiting. For the backside to catch the spent balls you could try a small rectangular cardboard box but they wear out, but still a cheap option. Another item is a sturdy parts bin like the Akro-Mils #30120 in this link.

They fit nicely in the back of most machines (vintage and moderns) and will hold hundreds of balls. They are great if you do not plan on making a cabinet or don't want to build up the rear platform. It keeps things simplified for ball management when you set things up for play and then pack it up later for child and pet safety. I use these in the rear of my machines and the other containers on the front side for playtime and storage. These solid plastic bins come in many sizes, colors, and prices. I can tell you that the price isn't to far from wholesale pricing.

I thought the in thing to use was a paint roller tray. As for me. I brought some original ex parlour collectors in Japan to feed the balls back to a main tank.

My latest box from Japan had two of those collectors for some future setting up in my game room. They didn't get to me soon enough to get worked into the plan prior to my disabled leg. Perhaps by summer time I will have done something constructive with them. The paint roller tray is a great idea but I kept all my machines low on their tables. I thought of drilling out drop holes in the tables and running pvc to collection points. I'll come up with some crazy combo

Those would be perfect if the one side wasn't lower than the other.

You might be able to loosen up the shooting spring a little bit. It has a lot of power right now.

Here is a link to a very similar one, with some lights, I liked working on...

I do 3D printing so I make a bracket and a box tall enough to go almost all the way up. Makes for a perfect fit, relatively cheap to make. I have a few Sankyo like yours. Shoot me a PM if that's something you'd like, I'll see if I can help ya out.

    Shameless plug:

These are the bins we make / sell for Model B machines. They hold about 1000 balls. Made out of 3/8" Prefinished cabinet plywood. The piece of carpet helps dampen sound and the notch makes it fit perfectly in the back of the machine. Plus they are the exact width to fit in the notches on a Nishijin machine rear tray. (listing soon to be posted on my website)

    037.jpg035.jpg023.jpg

If pachitalk members want the plans (free of charge) send me a PM with your email. I'll get them to you this coming weekend when I'm home. Or if you just want a kit where you glue & screw the bin together we sell that for $25 shipped to the lower 48 states.
