Firedrift Reel Bulb Replacement - Tip

Just spent nearly an hour messing with my Firedrift as I had two bulbs out far left reel - top. Decided it would be better to pinch a bulb from another reel until I can get some new bulbs and have 2 dimmer reels rather than one bright wheel and one completely out.

After I had messed FOUR bulbs were out spent the next hour chopping and changing and even finally removing the light board from the reel and plugging it into the next reels light controller that I could see was lighting all 6 bulbs OK - nope only lit 4 although I knew 5 bulbs were good. Then it hit me, the reel bulbs are wired in series per pair ....... me taking one out was cutting the supply to the other (good) bulb

So if you have a reel bulb out in your Firedrift it will take out the other good bulb too so dont "borrow" one from the next reel or you'll have that dead too

What voltage are these bulbs ? They are not 24v or 12v, anyone know ?

yes they are in series. They are 12v . Also make sure you use two 12v
in pairs. If you use one 12 and one 24 you get a weak light out of the
12v bulb. You can use two 24v but that will give you even a weaker light

Oh boy, I just cant wait till I have to do some major repait on my machines!

You'll have trouble doing major repaits on one of these things m8 it's all plug in plug out stuff. Get a home build 'plane
