Default Hello, first pachinko machine. First time playing one too.

Picked up a Sankyo machine on impulse for $60 today. Never seen a pachinko machine before, but being a fan of odd junk I could not resist.

Someone had cut the wires to the bulbs and switches for some reason. But it appears that this game works with gravity alone so I was pleased with that. I will at some point get the lights and switches back in working order and maybe do something clever with an Arduino or Raspberry Pi. But that's nerding for another day...

It's apparently sat in disuse for a very long time as the balls have some rust on them. That made the balls jam up in the works. Could see some balls had navigated to places that it appears they shouldn't be. So I disassembled it and de-balled (should have had my wife do that job!) the whole unit. Got it back together, sorted out the rusty balls and dumped in the cleanest batch in the top for testing purposes.

Works! But... then there's a problem.

Around the ring that the ball enters, at about 2'o'clock, I notice that there is a stuck ball peeping behind a white flap. I opened the glass and popped it out and noticed that there are a few other balls below it. Hidden behind that square channel that makes the ring. Are balls supposed to be in that channel? What makes them come out? Has stumped me.

Thanks for your help and I look forwards to restoring this.

Welcome to Pachitalk. Do you have a photo of the area that you are talking about? A picture is worth a thousand words. IT sounds like you might be talking about what is sometimes referred to as the "foul" area. Basically if you launch a ball too hard it travels around the race and hits the little flap which moves allowing the ball to enter a chute that feeds to the lower tray so that these "foul" balls are returned to you so you can replay them. If you have rusty balls (hehe) they may be jammed up in the chute so they cannot exit into the lower tray. You may want to poke around in there with a long pipe cleaner or zip tie or something of that sort that will be flexible enough not to damage the chute, but firm enough that it can break loose a blockage.
