    Default Maruhon Fighter

    Hello, everyone.
First, I'd like to thank you for making this site available. My love for Pachinko started rather early. My neighbor had one of those american machines(if you can call it that) back in the late 1970's. I don't want to bore you with my life story, so let's jump ahead a few decades. My mom bought a 'Sammy Gao Gao Kids' machine at an estate sale for $25 in a box with a few other things. Since her grandkids grew up and lost interest in it, she decided to ask if I wanted it. Well, of course I did. Soon, I got the idea that it would be cool to have two more for my wall downstairs. I spotted a Maruhon machine - in an online auction - with a jet on the face and it said in bold letters: 'FIGHTER'. I knew this had to be the next one if it didn't sell for too high a price. When I went to pick it up, it looked much shabbier in person. I plugged it in, and the fuse blew. This thing needed some work. I stripped it all down to the point where I even replaced the corroded, plated 'tracks' with stainless steel. Okay, now we're up to date. As of last night, she's all back together. I have not put the fuses back in and I have NOT plugged it in. I do not trust the previous owner's wiring prowess. I would like some help acquiring some sort of wiring diagram. This machine doesn't appear to be too common(I can't find ANY information or pics of this one). Any help is greatly appreciated. Love the site!

Hi Dan and welcome to the group!
How is snowy Minnesota doing? I haven't been back home to St. Paul in couple years and have been thinking of a road trip

Can you post some pictures? Others here know wiring detail well and pictures are a good starting point if able.

Snowy Minnesota is very cold right now. Can I post pictures? I've tried and it has proven quite difficult. Sorry for the delay in responding. Life keeps getting in the way.

Sorry I was thinking of the wiring of vintage machines. Just the same though, details in the pictures can be most helpful. Others may see the problem and be able to help you correct it.

I’m not familiar with the Maruhon machines but it looks like yours is wired from the wall plug to directly into the machine? I only have ones that have a transformer mounted at the bottom to convert household current to the 24 volt system these run on. Not seeing or saying it doesn’t have a transformer built in elsewhere. But I would not plug it in until others more knowledgeable about this can offer some advice.

As for posting pictures, this might help you along.

Where about are you in Minnesota? I Grew up in lower St. Paul but lived around the twin cities for my first 25 years before moving to Michigan.

We are in southeastern MN; about an hour from St. Paul.

I will try to find a transformer for it. Then I'll hafta try installing it too. I guess there's a first time for everything.

I keep wondering about the gold-ish metal box on the hanger with what looks to be a cord plugged in above it. Perhaps someone has a machine like this and can shed some light on if it has anything to do with supplying power or is it for another purpose.
    Maruhon.jpg
Does the cord hanging on the right side connect to a switch or other item at the top or does it wrap behind the plastics down to the metal box mentioned above? I assume if it connects at the top then you will need a transformer spliced into that cord on the right. (That’s just my calculated risk assessment!)

If you end up looking for a transformer, here is a sample of one I have in a couple newer machines. This is a 24VAC output with 6amps. The amps would probably be overkill for this machine.

Here is a 4amp at 2/3rds the cost from this supplier.

One end of the cord does go into that gold box. There looks to be a main power supply cord (right side in photo). There is a sticker/label on the cord that says 24V only. I don't know transformers well enough to make a fair choice. I just don't want the machine to be damaged goods. I think you're right about the cord. Thank you for the transformer options. Food for thought is what I need.
