Talking 2001 Super Reno - Care and Maintenance Questions

    Good Afternoon All,

This is my first post. I was referred to this site by Stealth Home Amusement after inquiring about getting a replacement OEM coin mechanism for this machine. I solved that issue (thanks to this site) but had another question that is not so obviously solved.

    Machine: 2001 Super Reno
Condition: Used, Not Abused (some cosmetic damages to case from normal wear/tear, some scuffing on the "chrome" laminate sticker things, and similar)
    Working: Yes, with minor hiccups.

Investment so far: $250 purchase, $30 replacement coin mechanism ($280 total)

My question is about care and maintenance of this particular model. Needs TLC. I am assuming I can't just "Glass Plus" it or use plain mechanical/machine oil on applicable parts? How do I clean and care for this thing properly?

Thanks in advance. I look forward to your responses.

    ~ Leslie

    simple glass cleaner

play it play it play it.. it seems the biggest problem is that machines sit for long periods of time and then the electronics fail..

im more of a pachinko guy so no lube or oils on those.. im assuming the same for pachislo

Hello Leslie and welcome to the group Nice machine-do enjoy it!

For cleaning the exterior I like to use a cleaner called Novus plastic clean & shine. They have 3 different levels of this product where #1 is a good general cleaner. Then #2 & 3 are more for scratches in plastic. #3 is for deep scratches and you would progress to #2 then #1 as a method of scratch removal. I'd recommend it but be sure to read the directions as always. You can buy them as singles or kits. Using #1 is all you need for cleaning up the plastic and chrome and it has an anti static property in it as well. Many places have it on the internet at various sizes and prices. I found it well priced at a local pinball shop here.

As for using oils I have not needed nor recommend it. Items like WD-40 will attract dust and can make things worse in time. Some have used oils on the reel motors with and without success. You may hear a low noise from the reels spinning which is common for many machines, some more than others. I have a different Yamasa machine and the reels are a bit louder than other machines. In the parlors the game sounds are so loud that the reel noise wasn't a concern. I don't have this same machine but hopefully someone will be along to comment further.

There really isn't much maintenance other that just keeping it clean. All the stepper motors for the reels and the hopper motor are sealed units and don't need any oil. All the other parts are electronic and should be keep clean and dust free, as all the electronics you have in your home.

I also like using Novus to remove scratches and keep the exterior of the machine shining.
What if...the HOKEY POKEY, is what it's all about?
