Default I think I need a new coin / token mechanism - help!

I inherited a non-working Yamasa King Pulsar. It is giving an E-0 error exactly as described in this old thread: http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/pach...lp-noob-2.html

I've done the typical clean up and resetting.

The biggest clue I have that leads me to replacing the mech is that if I remove the 5 red wires connected to the coin mechanism and the error goes away and the alarms stop. However, then the game is unplayable.

I've checked Ebay and Google for pachislo parts and found one coin mech but it's from the U.K. I'd prefer to purchase from USA if possible. Or, of course, fix it would be a better choice!

So, any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hello ajgriglak and welcome to the group!

Are you able to clear the code and it comes back after inserting a token or is the error not clearing with a full reset? I had the same results as you by unplugging the connection with the five red wires to the mech. So I wouldn’t want to assume that the mech is bad based on that alone. Is the magnet in the mech pulling back in at the end of a full reset as it should with a soft to a loud click?

I have a Yamasa Neo Magic Pulsar which may or may not have the same coin mechanism. I was able to trigger the E-0 error by slowing down a token as it was almost past the sensor in the mech. Perhaps there is just enough grit or grime in the mechanism, sensors, or on the tokens causing the tokens to move through slow enough to trigger the error. In your cleaning did you clean the sensors? A damp Q-tip with Windex works well.

A part of the path could be bent or altered as well. I have a Thunderbirds machine that the mech was messed up as someone tried converting it from tokens. There was even part of an emery board glued to the magnet to bypass it? I was able to correct everything in time and it takes tokens well now.

Another thought is about a sensor going bad. In the prior post you mentioned, carwarr noted the following trick to check for a bad sensor. It works with my TV remote but I didn’t pull out the mech to try it on that.

“On optos, the part that usually goes out is the LED itself, you can usually take a digital camera or video camera and look at the LEDs when they are powered on and see if they glow as Infrared LEDs can be seen with most cameras now a days. Try this by shining you TV remote control into a camera and push a button and you should see a pulsing light.”

Others will be along with more help so hang in there.

When I clear the code (with the five red wires unplugged) the machine operates normally and the attract mode works properly. Inserting tokens has no affect with the five red wires unplugged. If I clear the code with the five red wires plugged in, I get the E-0 error immediately.

No, I see no movement or hear any noise in the mech after the full reset. In fact, the mechanism appears pretty lethargic when inserting tokens.

As I said, I'm getting the E-0 error immediately after clearing the code, so I can't see how it would be some grime. Inserting the tokens has no affect.

It all looks clear enough to me; the token goes through unimpeded.

I will mess with that this weekend.

Again, thanks to all for the replies.

If you have the Toshiba TLP1002A sensors in there, and think they have gone bad (and it sounds like that might be it), I can test the board and re-build the sensors if needed. Contact me at ridgetoplabs@att.net if you are interested. Good Luck!
