    Default Popeye pachislo machine

Hello E1 errors can normally be cleared cant they ? If the screen is completely blank with no animation can that be fixed ? I will obviously check if any connections are loose but if that don't work will anything else fix the screen ?

Hi Chello, this may help with your E1 error. Sometimes bent tokens or built up grime will cause an error. Dirty or thinner tokens can jam up the hopper. There may also be a fuse involved (typically on the power supply box). Check fuses with a meter if able rather than just visually. Another item could be a dirty or faulty opto sensor that are on some hoppers. A good cleaning of the hopper is my first step if I don't see an obvious cause.

E-1/ (HE/ HJ) The hopper may be jammed. Turn off and unplug your machine, remove the hopper and take out all the tokens and look for what ever has jammed it. The dial in the bottom should turn freely by hand.

As for the screen try unplugging and reseating the connections if you haven't already. You can also look for bent wire pins at the connecting points. I have not had monitor troubles so I'm not sure about what else to check.

Unfortunately, not all Error Codes are the same for all machine manufacturer's.

An E-1 error code for some machines is a hopper error but, for Popeye, manufactured by Sammy. An E-1 error code means a Soft Error of Ram. In other words the machines has lost it's memory and needs a "Hard Reset".

I've shown the steps for a Hard Reset and a list of Error Code meanings, for your machine below.

I tend to agree that your monitor problem is in a connection, somewhere.

Sorry to drag up an old post, i recently bought a popeye with a faulty screen that was just black after powering up, if i disassemble the screen unplug all the ribbon cables including the lcd cable and then rebuild the screen and boards i get a full screen for a few minutes, the lose about 1/3rd of the screen for a few minutes, the down to a 1/3rd where it usually stops but half of that start breaking up a bit and odd red dots like a bad video cable, i am assuming it is one of the boards that is in the lcd assembly, does anyone know what one as i don't believe it to be the lcd as surely it would not work at all.
    any input would be great.
    Thanks Mark

    Welcome Aboard

Sometimes a faulty or to lower spec mains transformer can bring on screen issues, As the transformer starts to heat up, the output voltage drops and the components on the machine that draw the most power start to fail or act strange.
especially if you say the image is ok to start with.

Its more the current spec rather than voltage. But if its still reading 24vac +/- 10% when it starts to go wrong. Then the problem would be elsewhere

Does anyone know the pinout of the power supply so I can check the voltages that are coming out to see if that is a fault.
    thanks

Hi guys. Sorry for bringing up an old thread, and wish I’d been more active but been pachislo’less for many years
i believe I have just picked up the very machine In the original post. So instead of repeating the same old info, I’ll just go over the info I have gathered so far.
so the screen starts off white when booting up and after a few seconds, goes to a red screen.
every 30-60 seconds it makes a small popping noise and the screen goes back to white and then after a few seconds, back to red. At no point have I seen anything kind of animation etc.
ive put a voltmeter to the four pin output on the psu, (two yellow and two black ground.) I have tried one side and it seems to be steady on 5.12v not moving at all, however the 24v output seems to fluctuate between 22.2v and 25.6v.
the rest of the machine works, reels spin flawless and hopper fine.. although as original post has said it has thrown up an E1 error now and then, but not with me yet.
all the leds that are connected to the board that is connected to the screen don’t light either. I’m hoping that because of the possible psu fault this may cause the lack of power to the board and that it’s not the board itself.
has anyone else had this issue in the past, the board is definitely getting power, there is a lit led on this board.. but very concerned about the lack of leds.

thank you so much for your time

Sorry scratch that.. the leds light fine, just put it into reset and they lit up. But sound is an issue.. would I be right in saying that the screen and sound could indeed be the 24v output issue.
    thanks

Also, I have completely dismantled the lcd monitor and made sure everything is seated and correct. Put back together and still same issue.
i have no sound at all though (didn’t make that clear in last post), sorry.
dont suppose anyone has a 6amp15amp Sammy power supply for sale at all please.

also may sound like a stupid question, but could I wire in the power from the 4 pin connector (which I believe to be 24vac) straight into a plug in transformer.. as I’m pretty sure the psu is faulty on the 24vac and causing the issues.. however if I took out the two wires running from 24vac on the psu and plugged into a mains adaptor (24vac) and powered the rest of the machine via the psu.. would that normally work.. would give me and idea if it’s definatelt psu or lcd/Board issue.

    thank you

I still have not sorted my video issue, as for the sound I thought mine had stopped working, then I found a volume pot had been fitted in the door.

    Hi All

Sorry to bring to life and old thread, I have the exact same problem with a Sammy Popeye where the screen on startup is missing approximately an inch and then as time progresses the rest of the screen starts to tare until completely black.
Now the really interesting development is i had an error E1 which i followed the very helpful guide in this thread and not only did it clear the error it has also stopped the screen from failing as quickly. It will still fail but not after the 1 minute is was taking now more like 5-10 minutes.
Has anyone had experience of this type of fault and can anyone recommend and fixes ?
