You all misunderstood. I didnt buy this, although I followed it for a week & with 10 seconds to go, I bid 10 cents higher than the winning bid. And for the 2nd auction this week my bid didnt go through. I got a msg saying I had to correct my bid. Does this mean that if you dont bid at least x amount more than the guy who bid 10 cents less than you just 2 seconds before you that you lose?

No it means that you bid less than the bid increment.

Ie a item that is 31.00 might be going up by a bid increment of $1.00 at a time.

A bid (or snipe) of 31.10 won't go through and you will get a message similar to what you describe....because the minimum bid is now $32.00

If your down to that last 10secs. I would be putting in a bid of $5.00 more than the last bid. Chances are you won't need it but.... I would hate to lose out over pennies.

At that price level you would have had to bid at least $1.00 above the current high bid. To the right of the box where you type in your bid it will state the minimum bid amount accepted. Check any current auction and you will see this. The amount over the current bid increases as the item price increases e.g. An auction starts at a penny and someone has bid a penny. You need to bid $0.06 or more. Later that item is up to $1.00. You will need to bid $1.25 or more. Right before the auction ends you check it and it's at $36.00. You need to bid $37.00 or more.

Well, in both cases I bid aproximately $10 more than the showing bid. Apparently my bid of $36.10 at 10 seconds before the end was just not incrementally enough to beat the winners bid of $36.00 at 12 seconds before the end. Cest la vive, eh!?

That has happened to me on several occasions. It just means that someone placed a bid while you were typing yours in. Outsniped by another sniper. All too familiar to those of us who live and die by the snipe.

Hmmmmmmmmm.............this is strange. I have won lots of bids by mere pennies. I never bid in even amounts. It helps define where the maxium bid is from the previous bidder. I have bid (for example) 36.05 and won the bid. When I go back, as I also do, and check the bidding history, I have found their maxium bid to be $36.00 even. Meaning I won by 5 cents, even though bidding increments are at $1.00. It some cases I have only won by 1 cent, which always gives me a laugh.

I think you have to increase the bid by a minimum of $1.00 but can do any amount over $1.00. I sometimes put in different amounts in cents.
    and a few others.

    This is true brad,

If your maximum bid is at least one cent more than the other persons maximum (given that your bid is at least $1.00 more that the current bid) you win. So if the current bid is $30 with this person's maximum bid being $36, and I bid $36.05 I win for 5 cents above his bid. When you look at the history it will show a proxy bid of $36.00 for that person. This meets the requirement that the bid beyond $1.00.

Does this apply to 2 individuals sniping seconds apart?
    For example:
    You snipe w/12 sconds left @ $36.00
    I snipe w/10 seconds left @ $36.10
Im 10 cents more but 2 seconds behind you
The 10 cents is not enough to cover the minimum needed to beat your bid.
In fact, my bid wont even process due to this & I receive a msg stating I am S.O.L.!
However, if I already had a max or a snipe bid of $36.10 that was applied anytime before you bid, then the results would reverse.
Now, if I kick this mule once more with feeling, it might get up & dance the electric boogaloo...
