Default Fuji Exceed only fires balls if I'm touching metal?!?

Hi people, I just snagged this (my first machine) off Craigslist today and I can only get it to launch balls if I'm touching the metal ring around the handle AND I briefly touch another bare metal piece in the back.

I assume the metal ring around the handle is some kind of capacitance test to make sure something with flesh is holding the handle down, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it needs to be "jump started" by briefly touching something else as well.

Any insight would be great. This is my first experience with Pachinko, so maybe I'm just missing something obvious - please be gentle

And just to be clear, once I've tapped the metal on the back with one hand, as long as I don't let go of the metal ring on the handle, it'll keep firing while the handle is turned.20160707_235401.jpg

Probably a bad ground. You can attach a wire from the shooter ground ring to the metal frame. That should sort it out.

Thanks, after some further thinking about it, I came to the same conclusion. Going to try it in the morning.

Am I correct in understanding that the further I turn the knob, the harder the balls should be shot? In my limited testing, I don't remember them going different distances... if they don't, is there an obvious fix to try for that as well?

    Thanks again.

The harder it fires yes. But should still shoot the same amount of balls per minute.

post a pic of the back side of the shooter...

if memory serves there should be some kind of adjuster to adjust the sensitivity of the touch ring... i had a machine meany years back that would only work if you touched something else like yours does now.. mine would stop firing if i moved either hand.. an adjustment made it all better... (if memory serves)

    and of course

Here's the board where the shooter plugs in:

Unfortunately, I don't see any kind of adjustment screw anywhere on that board, or anywhere else on the machine for that matter. Everything seems to be computer controlled (aside from the volume pot that was installed by the US distributor.)

Well, that did it. I ran a wire from where the grounding ring on the handle connects to the circuit board to a metal screw on the rear frame and it's working perfectly now.

    Thanks so much!

Also, to anyone curious, I got the machine with ~660 balls (by weighing 100 of them and then doing the math) on Craigslist for only $30. Now, granted, I have no idea what the machine is actually worth, but I think I did pretty well. I love finding people who don't know what they're selling

So, it's mostly fixed - After connecting the handle ring to the metal frame on the back, the handle now works whether you're touching the grounding ring or not. I obviously don't really care, as it's going to be in my home, but I'm curious as to what a proper fix for this might be.

    Thanks again peeps.

Would have to check and measure the resistance for the wires from the shooter knob to the controller. Just be glad you don't have a Heiwa with a B1f board.

I measured from the grounding ring on the knob to where the wire connects to the circuit board and it had no resistance at all. 0 Ohms.

Have you checked if the ground wire is connected to the inside of the ground ring on the knob? I had one where it broke off. Just needed to wrap it back around the mounting screw on that ring and all was good. Be careful opening it up - not much slack in the wires. You might break other wires checking to see if that one is still connected.

I honestly can't figure out how to get the knob off, but it must be connected inside, because I'm getting continuity with my DMM going from the ground ring to the other end of the wire.

That's likely the "proper" fix you are seeking but disassembling the knob is a bit pokey... if it's working, maybe not be worth it

havent had a fuji in a while... but there isn't a screw underneath the knob on the metal ring? You'll have to peer up from the bottom of the machine...

I have the sister machine called monster house it looks exactly the same with a different face and does the exact same thing. I notice it still works if I pull the dongle off. Some of these i understand were modified to work without dongles or card readers. I am wondering if the capacitor in the dongle just is starting to fail or the oil in it is drying out due to age.
