Default Are these the correct light bulbs?

    Hello,

sorry for for all of the posts. Is the correct type of light bulb for a vintage? I am trying to set up one of my machines and the 7.5v bulbs I purchased a while ago from radio shack do not fit in one of the holes I need to use. One of my machines the bulb goes into a hole in the jackpot and the round shaped 7.5v bulb does not fit into the opening and so I need something that is more narrow. Please let me know if this will work or if you know where I can find the proper narrow bulbs.

    thank you in advance!

That should work fine. Normal spec would be a T3 or T3 1/4. But looks correct as the T3 1/4 has an overall length of 30 mm.

. Great thank you! I was concerned as I don't know anything about current and even though I know I need an e10 bulb and 12 or 7.5 volts I was not sure on watts and amps. I saw different types and was not sure what to do. They have another that is same bulb at 12v 0.15a and 1.8w and was not sure if either would work or either is better. Thanks again.

Power (watts) = Voltage x Current (amps). Therefore higher wattage will draw more current and be a bit brighter. This is of course assuming you are supplying enough current. With a wall adapter with 500mA I would use the 3 watt, 9 volt battery the 1.8 watt

the bulb is within the right specs... the problem with that bulb can be its overall length.. in some applications the overall length will be to long touching other bits of plastic.. then they get hot then thing melt.. its rare.. but it happens..

Thanks everybody. I think I will get them and see how it goes. I do not think it will hit the plastic there looks to be some room between the jackpot lens and the bulb area.

I don't know know much about lighting at all but have read led lights run cool. Would led work in this case and if so what bulbs would I need and does anything need to be done differently with them or do they just screw into the same socket and run on 9v or 12v DC adapters or 9v battery?

    thank you again!

LED's will be cool, and low power too. You would need the E10 Base style without changing sockets. 12 Volt LED will work fine on both 9 and 12 Volt wall adapters or a 9V battery. 9 Volt power will produce a dimmer flash on the 12 Volt LED however. Do keep in mind that the LED's will be polarity sensitive and wiring changes may be required.

I would not be concerned with the heat on the vintage models as long as the lights are not left on. The short period of the flash on win or even low ball should not generate enough heat to melt anything. Just make sure the bulbs have some clearance. I never leave a machine plugged in when not in use.

Thanks much for the info on led. I need to decide what to do. I am not eager to rewire. I get nervous about my kids leaving something on though. I have 2 antique pinball machines that are super old (82 years) that I am very nervous of being left on. They have no lights so it easy to think they are off when not. I have them plugged into a power strip with a lamp plugged into it so you can tell they are on yet my kids still forget to turn them off.

I need to think on it.

Ok, so I think I prefer to stay with the standard bulbs rather than move to led. The issue with the bulbs I found on eBay will be the length. They are a bit long as mentioned. They are 28mm in length. Does anybody know where to get narrow 9v bulbs that would be a little shorter. Or even 7.5 bulbs? Also I have seen people replace the rubber grommets but not sure where to get them. If anybody knows where I can buy them I would appreciate it.

    Thanks again,
    Mike

I use 12Volt from Newark for the bulbs, a bit dimmer but ok with 9 Volt wall adapter. Lowes for the gromets, 5/8 od x 3/8 id
