    My recommendation is to wait until you can buy the potentiometers; you'll probably find you'll want to alter the volume, and the pots will work better than cobbling together a string of resistors for that. Plus, what you find sounds good on the bench volume wise may not sound quite as good once it's installed in the garage, whether it becomes too quiet to hear over the balls... or winds up being even louder.
