Default Picking this Nishijin A "Crab" up this weekend!

New member. I have wanted one of these for 45 years. I used to play a friend's machine when my family lived in Hawaii.
Found this one on CL for $70 and felt it was a decent deal. Haven't seen it in person yet but it looks like a good cleaning will bring it to a nice piece.
I've been reading and watching videos and feel like I can get any mechanical issues straightened out.

My one concern is the wiring. Looks to be a little bit of a mess. Simple as it is, I want to be certain I have things correctly wired. I'll have better pics this weekend. Just wanted to introduce myself.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Welcome to Pachitalk. Looks like the machine is all there and in decent condition. The wiring shouldn't be too tough and since it is only 9 volts you don't have to worry about blowing anything up or burning the house down. Member cardwwi has wiring diagrams on his site pachinkorestorations.com.

Thank you guys. I'm looking forward to getting it cleaned up and running. I think my grandkids will enjoy it as much as I will.

welcome to pachitalk! Nice looking machine that looks complete, and does not look to have much, if any water stains! The wiring looks OK, as best as I can see. The fuse has a copper rod in its place...it will never blow! If using a 9volt battery...don't bother replacing it. Fuses are required in parlors because they use low volts with high amps. Generally not a problem at home. The original wiring on the machine looks intact, the dangling wires are attached to the input screws, and to the yellow screw for some reason. You wont use the yellow one. It is an alert to the office that a particular machine is out of balls. Looks like a lot of linkages inside the back cover. This means that certain tulips will open when other jackpots are hit. Always very cool.
Enjoy your new machine, and post pics when you get it! Post any questions you have...we are always happy to help!

Thanks for the insight Pachiwall. I noticed all of the linkages. Is it possible the crab's claws open and close? That would be cool.
I was pleased to see the staining seems to be minimal. Neat tidbit of info about the yellow screw.

nice machine, looks to be complete... Love the Model "A" machines... your wireing looks compleat and factory.. there are a few wires added to the power up points.. but unscrew and remove them and it looks correct..

    and of course

I just received a reply from the lady. She donated the machine to Goodwill 2 weeks ago. I may swing by tomorrow to see if it's still there and what they may want for it. Probably for the best!

Was the crab in Atlanta? I was tempted to get that, love the theme and the folk tale it's based on.

Yep, in Atlanta. I would love to learn more about the folklore associated with the theme. Anything online that you know about?

David's Video Game Insanity has a restoration log for one of these and has the story about 2/3 of the way down the page. This is where I first found out about this center feature:

She's alive!! Needs a good cleaning, some fine tuning and a little wood work but plays well.
Jackpots work good and lights work. Had to reattach top of ball bucket. Left the box of balls at the antique store and had to make the 65 mile round trip back. Stapled my finger with a 3/4" staple. It was nice and flush too!
    more later!

    Some pics.
    1456004690_zps7nlgh1ca.jpg1456004601_zpsnlh34xnj.jpg1456004624_zpsnn9dvmij.jpg1456004722_zpswnpie0sd.jpg1456004745_zpswxwxkzdi.jpg1456004772_zpsjgch5drd.jpg1456004646_zps7nyobnjs.jpg1456004570_zpsci0oxgll.jpg

I haven't done any real cleaning. Just vacuumed it out and made sure he ball tracks were clear. I did have a jam in the feed to the flipper. A "Battleship" miss peg of all things!
The background is very nice. The decal above he crab is peeling back a bit and a small piece is missing. maybe some clear nail polish to preserve and protect them?
I'll get to shining up the chrome when I get it home and have room to work. Right now my grandson and I are having a blast playing it. I need to do some fine tuning on the contacts of the lights but that's no biggie.
I haven't looked up the Pachinko House in Tampa yet,but will later.
The last pic is of my staple wound. Ha! The staplegun my daughter has is a "Powershot". I have never used one. Now, I consider myself pretty intelligent, but I was stupid in this instance. The Powershot staples come from the opposite end of a normal staplegun. I wanted to se if I thought there was enough power in it to staple through the plastic of the top ball hopper so I held it against some wood and stabilized it with the now injured hand. Those Powershots are no joke! 3/4" staple secure and flush into my middle finger. I looked at it and started laughing. Dumba$$. Dad always said if you're gonna be stupid, ya have to be tough.
