    Default Merry Christmas from Alaska

My dad used to have a couple pachinko machines that I used to play with when I was a kid. Fast forward about forty years and my wife manages to hook up with someone fairly local who had a Sanyo Comet II from about 1976. It's pretty rare to see any pachinko machines up here, and shipping costs from the Lower 48 can be quite exorbitant. The machine apparently had been sitting in someone's basement for the last 20-30 years. It became my big Christmas surprise this morning.

Playfield has some grime, pins are tarnished, case is a little beat up, it has a single pane of plexiglass for the two glass panels, ball feed tray has multiple chips, lights don't work properly and jackpot switch looks worn out and bent, top right ball bumper appears to be nailed down, and the chrome trim is pitted and rusted. I also have a replacement feed tray, but the plastic is yellowed and the decal has faded to nothing. Otherwise, all of the mechanics are sound, all of the necessary parts appear to be intact (except for the window cover over the seesaw), and it's fun as heck to play.

It should be a fun restoration project. My wife is so proud of her Christmas nostalgia score that she says I can mount it on the wall anywhere in the house. Imagine that!

Here are a few pics of a preliminary cleaning in progress and some sleuthing on the light connections.

I may have inadvertently left a fingernail impression in the playfield while cleaning with a cotton ball. But other than that and the 3 extra nail holes for the bumper, the playfield seems pristine.

There's some rust and pitting in the front chrome trim. I may send it out of town later for refinishing.

I use some 000 steel wool and never dull. Then polish the day lights out of it ( I believe mopar gave me the 000 steel wool idea)

    000 is good

for the machine above i would start with 0000 steel wool.. im sure that chrome would be stunning with a bit of work..
