    Default New Bally

sold a pin and picked up this beautiful, fairly rare bally. has a cool "skyrocket" feature that when activated simulates a firework going off by a series of inserts lighting sequentially. each insert denotes a different score value with the best one being an extra ball plus 1k points. this is the first pin i've seen that doesnt use a solenoid to advance a stepper unit. a solenoid would have to fire rapidly which would be noisy, and just not achieve the desired effect. so a stepper unit with the typical metal fingers (spider) sliding over contact rivets is still used but an electric motor drives the spider for a quiet, smooth activation of the exploding firework.
when a ball lands in either of the 2 kickout holes, or drains thru the side outlanes, the skyrocket bonus is collected and the firework stops.
here's a vid of the same machine and some pics of mine:

mine's is really nice shape and the only thing i'll do is my usual-rebuild the flipper mechs, exchange all the metal solenoid sleeves for plastic ones, clean the steppers, and the score mechs followed by the usual playfield cleaning.

yeah, really nice color scheme on this one and the pics don't accurately show the depth of the colors. the flash washed them out.

The colors in the video looked pretty good. I'm thinking that was not your machine?

You should post a video once yours is "done" to your satisfaction.

I'm a fan of the EM sounds.

Yep, that's the vid I watched a bunch of times made by a fellow pinhead down in oz. after seeing the vid, I knew I'd like to find one but not many were made. i placed a want ad and sure enough someone was willing to sell.
the pics are of my machine. Dunno if I'll make a vid. The one I linked to is great plus mine is in a darker corner of the basement so lighting would be an issue and the vid wouldn't be any different really.

cool to see another owner and thanks for the pics. mine has 18,341 on the counter so normally i'd think that meant the counter rolled over to 118,341 but i don't think that's possible because the wear on the playfield doesn't reflect that. then again, my Expressway had over 84,000 plays on the original playfield that I replaced and other than the typical kickout wear, it was in nice shape. i switched playfields because i happened to find a better one for really cheap.
