    Default Nishijin Monroe Automoatic Shooter

Hey guys, I have a Nishijin Monroe that I've owned for many years. Doesn't get much use, but the last time I tried to use it, the automatic shooter will not launch any balls. The knob rotates just fine, when I touch the finger ground, I can hear the contact (or relay) engaging, but it will not shoot. It makes a deep clicking sound and the ball striker (?) pulses but will not strike.

Everything else on the machine works perfectly.

I have attached photos for reference, sorry if they are sideways.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Welcome Aboard

Sorry, I don't have any experience of a machine of this age, but there are still some things you can check.

Trace the wires back from the shooter motor and make sure everything is making good contact. If you have access to a voltmeter. Measure the voltage to the motor when it should be shooting.
Is the motor actually turning but maybe damaged gear or shaft going from the motor to the shooter cam.
Is the shooter cam damaged, cracked or slipping.
Is the shooter stop button stuck in.
Is the lower tray full sensor faulty or stuck.

Might be best to remove the motor assembly from the back of the machine for a proper inspection.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

It does sound like it could be a gear issue. I would like to check your other suggestions, however, I don't have a ton of experience with these machines. Can you point out to me the locations of the shooter cam, shooter stop button, and the tray full sensor?

    Thanks

If it has one, the stop button would be approx where your thumb would be when holding the shooter.

The motor and cam should look a bit like this, (This is actually a Sankyo one)

The cam being the big white thing on the top that pushes the shooter arm back and releases to fire.
A tray full sensor, that I have no idea, Might be a plastic lever hidden in the back of the machine in the path the balls take to get to the tray. Follow the route the balls take to get to the tray, but in reverse.

    lets try something simple..

are the balls making it to the shooter spring..

make sure the balls are making it to the shooter.. sometimes a large ball gets jamed in there or a dust bunny gets in the way and keeps balls from geting to the shooter all together..

    and of course

The balls are making it to the shooter spring. I will do a thorough cleaning and see if that helps.

    Thanks

if i remember right your should be able to operate the shooter with the lower tray door open..

does it look like the shooter is operating correctly? (ie is the little spring on the end of the shooter arm penetrating the hole and able to strike a ball??

I think this is the motor, But check everything first, You need to see if its an electrical fault or mechanical.
Is power getting to the motor, Yes or No
    Does the motor turn,
Does the cam turn and the shooter pull back and release.

Yes, Drunkenclam, that is the motor. It is working, but the gears are slipping. Does anyone know where I can get a new motor?

Attached are photos of the motor.

How did you even find that? What did you search for?

I'm having trouble finding that just on search engines.

Do you have contact information for Juno? I can't find anything online and this is all new to me (buying from Japan).

Thanks for all of your help.

    His webpage is
    http://www.bid-service.jp

    email is
    juno@bidservice.jp

as it's a Buy it now price, you don't have to worry about a maximum bid.

Just email him, introduce yourself. You can say I recommended him to you (Ian in the UK) tell him the url of the auction. Then he will advise you on the next step, normally send a deposit via PayPal. It might be worth asking if he can estimate the total price including shipping to US (the most expensive part) before you commit.

3 different types of shipping, speed and price vary, But he will advise you.

I used him last week, to get a large colour CR Urusei Yatsura 3 guide. Although I did cheat and had it sent to my
    auntie in-law in Japan.

Just ts remember the time difference? At the moment it's about 3am in Japan, so you might not get a reply for a while.

I think I might be having an issue with the shooter as well as with the motor. The white shooter shot adjuster (not sure what it's called - it's the white thing on the shooter wheel in the 3rd photo of my 1st post) has no effect on the actual shooter. Shouldn't the shooter arm move when I turn the white part of the wheel?

I assume you mean the actual part you turn, if so, that doesn't move the shooter arm it's self, it adjusts the return spring, the only thing that moves the shooter arm is the cam on the motor.

The motor that moves the arm always goes at the same speed, so the machine will always fire the same amount of balls per minute. To vary the force the shooter arm strikes the ball, the handle varies the tension on the return spring.

If you can move the shooter arm by hand and it springs back to its normal position, and when you release the handle that springs back too, that side all sounds fine.

Thanks for the clarification, it's been too long since I played this machine. All of that works fine, just as you described. I sent payment to Juno for the motor this morning, so now I will just wait for it to arrive.

Thanks again to everyone on here. This is a great site! I will update this thread when the motor arrives.
