This weekend I started work on the frame just needs a few more coats of poly and a final sand with the final coat of ploy before I start the assembly. This unit is going to be donated to a charity auction when all is said and done.

That is going to look SWEET! How are you going to finish the wood? I am a fan of a rubbed oil finish with boiled linseed oil. Probably because I had it on hand for walnut rifle stocks. Once you get your wood sanded good enough to make yourself happy...pour some oil on a rag and sop it onto the wood, getting into nooks and crannies. wipe off the excess and let it soak into the grain. At this point the grain of the wood just POPS! After about 5 to ten minutes, RUB off all the oil you can. Repeat as long as the wood soaks it up. Always rub off as much as possible between coats. It has always produced stunning results!
What is the staining to the left side of the bottom panel? I hope it will sand out.
Good luck with it...It looks great!

I think it may be related to the smoke exposure from the parlor.

Haven't updated the progress on this as it's been slow going due to the oddly calcified nails that after 96 hours in a brass tumbler still require to be cleaned up by hand.

Spyder was extremely kind and sent me some wonderful spinners that complement this machine. Since my time to complete this project is less than 8 days from today. All to be ready for a charity auction for a local youth group.

I had nails in far worse condition. I found them in a white and green state. To get them to look brand new I soak them in white vinegar for 24 hours. Then tumble up to five days (usually two will do just check em) I find the vinegar really helps on the super old corroded ones. Most 70s machine nails don't need that kind of treatment, but 40s and 50s typically do.

Those spinners do look good on there. I wasn't sure if the red would clash, but they look like a million buck. Nice progress.

I have found really bad nails like that I soak in pure CLR for a few hours, let dry then throw in the tumbler with walnut shell for 2 days (sometimes 3).

Also I do 2 runs of walnut. 1st day is with old walnut reused from prior time. 2nd day is with fresh walnut and a little turtle wax chrome polish. (like only a cap full of polish). Then the walnut from that run gets used for a new batch of dirty nails next time.

    100 machines and counting...

Alright folks, after 3 weeks of grinding. I placed the final nail in the play field.

Thank you again Spyder. This beauty is nearly auction ready for the DeMolay youth group. All that's left is the electrical. I'm going way low power on this to accommodate a flasher bulb for the tray empty lamp. (5 v) now to find a power supply that low.

    Thrift stores.

5V should be easy as most phone chargers are either 5V or 4.5v which will work fine.

    Looks great though.
