    Red face First cabinet build

Hi everyone, after doing bit of research and planning I decided to go the route most take and make my own cabinet(s) due to the monopoly on the packinko cabinet industry and questionable business practices I've read so much about. I decided to keep my first attempt as simple as possible so I can practice my woodworking skills a bit before making one with a top hopper/ bottom tray for my Bungee Jump machine. I figured I would show it off my creation! It turned out pretty decent for a first attempt, just your basic box design with a french cleat holding it to the wall and a "finger hole" for opening the machine from the frame. Maybe I will get fancy and use some hardwood and stain the next one. The wall mount makes my "new" machine lots of use now! Now I don't have to get up from playing pachinko to drink my liquor...

By the way, the machine is a 1975 Sankyo:

Can you take a photo of the interior? I'm just curious to see how you mounted it to the wall. I'm currently trying to decide whether to build some like this for my (growing) collection, or some that are free standing so I can move them around as needed...

Sure I'll try to get a picture up soon. I basically just copied the French cleat type mount with a couple of 1"x10"s as used in Ken's pachinko plans:

    http://www.dc8.org/pachinkocab/

I then mounted another 1"x10" with the 45 degree bevel spanning 18" across two studs in the wall using drywall screws.

Here it is. (The top 1"x10" is attached with screws and glued flush inside the frame, everything in white makes it hard to see)

So if I'm understanding that correctly, only the bottom 1x10 is mounted to the wall, and the pachinko machine is effectively just hanging from it, and can be easily lifted off?

This is how my Star wars is attached to the wall, with a Museum Cleat, same idea, it just lifts off

    pic.JPG

Both pieces of wood have been cut at a 45 degree angle and this is very strong. you must use metal wall bolts rather then plugs for this due to the weight pushing down onto the angle. we added an extra fastener thingy just as an extra line of security. It was also mounted on an exterior load bearing wall.

This wall mount was fitted back in 2006 and has been on the wall with no issues ever since. We took a look inside at the weekend as the card reader has become slightly dislodged and there were no signs of any wear or movement.

So it can withstand a Heavy modern machine and all the pachinko balls.

I used the same system to hang my Pachinkos on the wall (cleats are at the top of each cabinet frame). It works very well and holds a lot of weight. For the Hanemono machine, I attached the cleat to the studs in the wall.

I tell people to try to at least put 1 screw in the top cleat or the bottom brace as well to keep the machine from moving around.

I build my cabinets with a brace towards the bottom to A: strengthen the cabinet and B: provide an additional anchor point at the bottom. (Kinda like Jeff's cabinet)

I mean it isn't really needed but it is just that extra little peace of mind.

Also I give people heavy duty cabinet screws to hang their cabinets.

These are basically what I use. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/159...-50-piece.aspx
Ones I use are around grade 5 not 10 but they still hold around 60lbs. a piece. You can find them at either lowes or home depot (can't remember which). Put them in using an impact gun and man that cabinet won't move at all. I tell people to try to get 4 of them in the studs but 2 is more than enough.

Small correction to the above, I did not use 1x10"s for my first cabinet, I used 1x8"s... sorry about that!

I did use 1x10"s for my version 2.0 cabinet for modern machines:

Well, I got the pachinko cabinet making bug again an whipped up a 3rd cabinet over the weekend for Ban Ban Jump. What was just an unused corner of the room is now the pachinko corner; pick your poison, digipachi or hanemono!

The contrasting colors turned out kinda cool!

    photo 2.jpg

    photo 1.jpg

Here is a pic of the mega fresh cleat on the new cabinet (red)....it had to span 3 studs due to odd spacing not conducive to pachinko cabinet mounting:
