Default Newbie going to look at first pachinko

I'm going to look at this machine in my area. Hopeful to learn anything I can about it here. Comes with 700 balls I'm told. Thanks for any insight!

It is a 1974 Nishijin Model A (Dolphins) and it looks to be in pretty nice shape from the front.

700 balls is basically what you need for it. Just make sure they are shiny and don't have any pits or rust otherwise they are useless.

Here are some pictures of a complete machine from the same year.

    https://www.flickr.com/photos/vintag...7625147002101/

It would be wise to either print out the picture of the back to take with or have the picture handy on your phone. Cause if anything is missing it is very hard to replace it so it can really help negotiate price.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

It looks like a nice machine. The vintage pachinkos are fun to play with (of course, I like the moderns too). Make sure you run a few balls through the tulips to make sure the pay outs work. Good luck.

Thanks for the info all! I got two new pics from the seller and more detail as I asked if it's fully functional.
Here is what he tells me

    "
The level which pushes the balls up is working, but the balls are not moving. I do not know what causes it. Also there is a battery hookup somewhere and when the balls fall into the slots, the lights will go on. I do not know where to hook up the battery. It uses 9V battery.
    "

Should I move on or is these things an easy fix?

    Thanks again!

    probably an easy fix

in the pic posted the low ball flag/stopper is down... that is keeping ball from the shooter..

Pic from seller of back of machine. thoughts? machine value range? Not looking to make money on flipping it. Want to display it next to my Pachislos and be able to play it. But dont want to get ripped off either. I think he posted it at $65.

Picked it up for $45 on my lunch break, hope I can get it to work. No glass to add to the fixes.

I am sure you can get it to work. There are plenty of experts here to help. I don't know much about that model, but it looks like the seesaw needs to be reset to clear up the ball jam. At $45 I think you probably did alright.

both look like there complete.. the first is missing some the the electrical parts but the second has them..

either one should be well worth the 45..

Sorry about the picture snaffoo. Tried to take the wrong one down and it woudn't let me. The last picture posted is the back of the machine I got. My wife and i had a great time figuring out how it all worked. Yes, the balance bar needed to be reset and the components for the launch bar were not in the correct position. Mechanically it works perfect! But I've got a couple issue with it yet for it to be tip top:

    1. No glass. Looks like it takes 2 panes of glass installed from the top of the machine. Any advice here? Can I use Lexan? I've got kids so would prefer plastic, but without the glass the game isn't much fun.
    2. Cabinet is an issue and won't stand on it's own. I'm going to display the game next to my Pachislo's so if anyone can point to a great base plan I'm good good enough to be dangerous with wood working.
    3. Don't like the color of the outer cab so will paint that, but might just discard it if I build a cab, is the outer cab considered collectable? Looks after market and there is a pricetag on the inside of it for $19.99.
    3. Electrical. The 9Volt hook-up is connected with the red (assuming positive wire) but the black (Assuming negative) isn't connected anywhere. I can solder, just need to know to where?

Thanks in advance for any help, insight, or pointing me in the right direction for tutorials....this is SO MUCH FUN!!!!

all you need is one pane.. for authentic sound ya can put glass in the first slot close to the cell and plexi on the outer one.. the parlors had glass in both..

collectible no.. but it is part of the game.. build a cabinet around the original frame that way you can use it the same way it was installed in the parlor.. there are several post on cabinet frames,, I like this one

think of the wires like a loop.. power from the source to the switch.. then to the light.. then back to the source.. since the original wires and stuff are gone just use what ya have to make it work

    glad to hear its working

Look again. There is a cabinet around the original frame. An aftermarket-looking one.

Looks like the glass or lexi would need to be 16X18 inches huh for the inside and outside layer?

i thought it was the other macine..

as for lights then you need to hook the black wire to the green post.. the red one looks to already be hooked to the red/orange one..

The game is very fun indeed! My kid loves playing it of course. That looks like a cool cabinet that was posted, but thinking that since it's already got an aftermarket case on it I'll just modify that case to it's more stable, (when I open the door it wants to fall towards the person opening it), and give the outer casing a paint job then to match the modification I do. If I end up getting more machines I'll want matching cases for them, cause I'm OCD like that, but hopeful someone can suggest a simple way to mod this case so it's not a danger to my little ones playing the game?

Also regarding the lights, I managed to get the black wire installed where it should go and I got a new 9Volt battery (tested with good energy) plugged in. The fuse looks good, the lights look good, but nothing lights up when a jackpot is hit. I noticed that the yellow wire the goes up into the houseing is attached to a lead in there that is loose, could that be the issue?

You can add some feet to the cabinet. Most people use 1x4 pine cut around 12-16" long. I personally use solid maple but you can't get that at most stores.

37.jpg38.jpg (mine are smaller than 1x4 because I use solid maple)

You want to install them so a minimum of about 4" is sticking out in front of the machine. (I use the lower tray as my reference most the time.)

Also another option would be to turn that case into a wall mount. You'd have to reinforce a few parts and add a cleat (all easy stuff). But some people don't like to have the machine hanging on the wall. All up to you.
