Default Nishijin Model B that I picked up tonight

I had to smuggle it in while my wife was in the shower.

Nishijin B for me. It is dirty and gross for most parts but then surprisingly clean in others. The back of the playfield the wood is nice and clean the rest is dirty. It seems to work mostly but needs a cleaning.

The little plastic window on the upper front tray is broken. The tulip right below the center feature if closed does not get any balls in it and I dropped balls in center feature and the hole above it multiple times and nothing makes it open. If I stick a ball into the tulip manually it will open and jackpot but once closed I don't know what opens it. Any ideas?

Each eye of the center feature has a little wing. One will always be up and the other down. If a ball runs down the outside and hits the one that is will divert the what I am guessing is a nose to the other side and the eyes will switch which is up arms which is down. By the nose switching it changes which side the ball goes down if it enters the center and will cause the tulips on left and right to open.

It has real glass, all my others are plexi and I like the glass sound but concerned about my youngest daughter getting hurt so may put plexi outside it.

They ran it with a 12 volt battery and you can see they wrapped the fuse in foil so that is a little scary and will need to be looked at.

It it came with a couple hundred balls and 99% look ok to use. It also came with documentation from when it was purchased and a crappy particle board stand that went into a dumpster on the way home. The owner was the original who's parents bought it for when he was a kid.

Date has a 50 but looks like is a 1975 model for photos I have looked at but I don't know.

    I paid $20 for it.

Will post photos in a couple posts.

Last set. Last photo is the broken window. If anybody has one they could sell for a decent price please let me know.

    Thanks,

Could you please scan in the one page with the color picture. I haven't seen one of those before. And then send me a Pm or email (if you have it.). I'll post it to my site free for everyone.

    Nice find you got there.

Yes NP. I won't have access to a scanner until next week (my home one is having issues) but will get it to you then.

Any idea on that tulip right below the center? There is no way for a ball to enter once closed and I don't know of anyway for it to open otherwise.

    Thx,
    Mike

I call those pass-through tulips. They can only be opened by getting a ball in the center feature. One path will lead the ball through the tulip opening it. This then gives you a possibility of 4 payouts at most.

    1. CF hit which opens both tulips.
    2. Close lower tulip
    3. Close top tulip which opens lower tulip again
    4. Close lower again.

It is really fun if you can hit it in that order.

Max thanks. It seems it only goes left or right, nothing down the center. I will need to take a closer look.

Ok so I played a little more with it. No matter what I do that top tulip is bypassed. The center feature will either go and open the left or right tulips or the bottom center one but the upper one is bypassed. If I drop a ball directly in it from the front it does open. I wonder if something is wrong behind it. I may pull it off to see. I pulled the center feature and see nothing wrong up there. Weird...

I think something must be wrong with the tulip. With the center feature off I have dropped balls in every possible slot back there and when it goes down the center it opens the bottom tulip but not the top. The top tulip works fine of I drop a ball in it though. I am un able to pull it without pulling the nails around it as I can't get grip on the tulip nails from straight above. I will need to leave it for now as it is not my next project in line. Was hoping to work it out but will someday...

Sure, here it is. Front and back as well as what is behind it. If you look at the picture of what is behind it I am wondering if that piece of plastic in the center of the bottom is supposed to move. I cannot touch it though due to the clear plastic in front of it. If I drop a ball down the center there it will activate the bottom tulip but completely bypasses the top one. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Mike

There is one for sale with the same center feature on eBay right now. Starting bid of $25. Maybe if you send the seller an email they can tell you if the upper tulip opens on theirs.

Thanks and I agree. Something must not be working correctly. Eventually I will take the back off and see what is going on. Just won't have time for a bit unfortunately.

I could not wait, I know I said I have other projects to do first but this was bugging me. I am still not going to work on this machine next but took off the tulip to see what the issue was. It took me a while due to the angle with the nails all around it but got it off and I must say I was quite surprised by what I discovered. The tulip has only the hole at the bottom so the ball passes through it and continues to the next tulip. The center feature which I did not post a good enough picture of the bottom before has no way for a ball to pass through into the tulip directly, all balls are fed through it and into the back of the machine. And the oddest part at least to me is that the hole the tulip sits into on the playfield is blocked off in the back... So once the tulip is closed it will stay closed until a ball would be fed by hand into the top of it. Strange is all I can say...
