    Talking WORKING Ball Lifter

I have been working on this ball lifter for a month now and finally got it to work.

    WP_20140911_008.jpg
    Made of Acrylic and ABS

    I used a Long Micro Switch and 12V 30RPM motor from amazon.com

I also made a case with a hopper to direct the balls to the lift. The case was design to fit in between my two machines.

I will attach.SLDPRT files and .STL of the gear if you want to make one yourself.

The lifter slows down a little, but that's not a big deal.

That can simply be fixed by using a motor with more torque. All one really needs is the gear and the guide curve which your provided. You can modify the hole on the gear to accept the shaft of what motor you choose.

Until you exceed the torque rating of the plastic gear. Then you hear lots of crunchy sounds and no more balls move. And those teeth get pretty thin on the ends. Remember that the contact area of a ball on a flat surface is very small. The additive weight of all those balls will be sitting on that one contact point.

The flip side of the coin: if you're putting enough load on the motor to get it to slow down, you may get into a heat problem over the long term, or failure in the gear reducer.

There is a cut to the right in the white guide that goes under and to the left of the gear. Is that put there to allow that to flex a little bit? I don't know enough about ABS plastic to know of its flexing properties, but if you intended for it flex, and ABS doesn't like to flex, that could be a source of failure over the long haul.

I know it sounds like I'm trying to tear your design down, but I'm not. The fact that it works shows that it has merit. Just trying to point out some possible failure points over long term use. Because we ALL know that SOMEONE is going to rig up a collection and feed system that runs all 10 machines in their basement and then decide to have a 24 hour pachinko marathon. Don't deny it! You know who you are.

You have a very good point there. That is why everything has to be adjusted accordingly.

The other option is to look into using different material for the gear. I know they make carbon fiber infused filament for 3D printers. (yes I did just say carbon fiber) which I think would be far superior to ABS for this application. Though it is about twice the price of ABS. I know there are a lot of other materials for 3D printing that are way stronger than ABS to put up with the pressure of balls on the gear. That way you could possibly use a bigger motor. And it might be a good idea to have some sort of heat sink or cooling system for the motor.

about 1 ball per second slower than a Silver.

They added the gear to the zip file attached but that is all I'm able to use as it seems the word documents got messed up.

Maybe if I get some free time I might redesign the rest of the housing and add the model here. (Maybe even print out a few and sell them to members)

So I took this and made some pieces to use in my set up. This design by mathew818ply is a good one. I had issues with finding a microswitch that was sensitive enough. and with a modern machine spitting balls out fast I needed something fool proof. I switched it to a prox sensor with a simple relay circuit and it works great. If anyone is interested in building one and has a 3d printer or access to someone with one

Here are the files https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4529056 You will need to build mathew818ply unit my pieces convert it to 1/2 flex pex and 1 1/2 pvc for the collection
