Thanks! Looks like I will need to make a hopper as maybe the first segment of the ball chute that sits under it. I got my furnaces replaced and they were just tossing good scrap away, so I snagged a few sheets. It's pretty thick ductwork tin, but should work. Thanks for everyone's response, especially Meathead - looking forward to the measurements and any other details you have. Send me a PM when you get it all together so I can send you my email for better res pics.

My upper ball tray is in bad condition. It has been bent, some of the soldering has failed, and it is rusty. I am currently in the process of removing it and it looks as if it is attached to the track below all the way past the elbow to the seesaw below. There are a combination of screws and nails holding it in place. Some of the nails remove easily, others require some effort and I can potentially damage the tin they fasten to the board.

Here are some photos of the mechanics in the vicinity of the upper ball tray. Just past the tray is a small seesaw that appears to prevent the balls from falling in the payout track if it is not weighted down. Obviously my mechanism is bent as the cutout that would hold up the seesaw (see green arrows) does not fall in line with the corresponding pin on the seesaw. The pivot point is marked by the yellow arrow.

Also, there is a gate that appears to have no mechanism that trips it (red arrow). In the up position, the balls are directed to a track to fall out of the bottom of the machine. In the down position, it holds the balls so that they may be used when the seesaw falls as a result of a payout. It appears this gate would be operated manually by an employee of the parlor, and is not tripped by another function of the pachinko.

I'll get some more photos up as I begin to remove the upper portion of the ball track and the tray.

Red arrow = ball dump gate. Manually operated by parlor employee.

These next three posts will be some images of the tray from all angles. More specific photos and measurements will come later.

Wow. That's going to be a challenge to make. I think I'll practice on some sheets of paper to get all the folds set up. But first, honey do says put the crown moulding up in the living room

Crown moulding was created by the devil himself and spawned from the depths of hell. If I never have to touch that stuff again, I will live a happy life.
