I'm not sure of other states, but,

California is too greedy to do that. Heck, we have to pay sales tax, and then an additional "hazardous waste fee", depending on the screen size.

Oh, and if a cell phone has a reduced price, such as on Black Friday, you have to pay the sales tax of the original price. The state believes that its an "instant rebate" and not a reduced price. Why this logic isn't applied to other things sold on Black Friday, has me thankfully confused.

For example, Best Buy had an ATT Go Phone for $3. Great, but the original price was $60 (supposedly). So the sales tax was $6 and the hazard waste fee was $3, so the total price was $12. Still not bad, but not $3 either.
Lets say a laptop was on sale for $300. Sales tax was $30 and hazard waste fee was $25. So that laptop was actually $355 out the door. Not so great of a deal.
Of course people said, "screw that, I will buy off the internet, tax and hazard waste free", but California got wise to that, and wants sales tax for everything you buy off the internet.

California sucks ... your money away.

Florida is a "tax friendly" state, no tax on grocery food items, no state income tax, $25,000.00 homestead exemptions on homes. 6 or 7% sales tax depending on what county your in and they just reduced the license plate tax

Now this is screwy. Target had a cell phone on sale today. $19.99. When you bought the phone, you got a free Entertainment card worth $15. You could have either a Facebook card, or an XBox card. I went with the XBox card. My total, out the door was $20.99. How that worked out is beyond me. I paid a $1 for tax and hazardous waste. Huh? It should have been $2 tax + $3 hazardous waste. Oh well, I am not complaining.
