    Default PayPal

I have a question about PayPal, so I thought I'd post it in the Ebay section since most people use PayPal to pay for their Ebay auctions.

I have a PayPal account, just the personal account not the business or premier account. I was looking through FAQ's on PayPal and discovered that I can recieve payments, free of charge (no fee), for the first $500 per month. Does anyone know if this is a correct assessment?

I believe this is correct unless you're a verified member which removes the limits. As long as you do not accept credit cards. Once you accept your first credit card, you are a premier member and they will take a cut of everything that you do even credits issued to you by others.

So if you were to pay for something, they take a cut, and if you send it back and get a credit, they take a cut.

I hate how pay pal takes a cut when somebody already has money in their pay pal account and sends it to another pay pal member. I always withdraw my money and then pay other people with a credit card instead of having it take it from my bank account so Pay Pal has to pay some charges to Visa.

Just buy yourself some eBay stock and then you'll enjoy it when PayPal makes money.

The $ 500.00 limit is not quite as it seems. the true limit is $2,000 total, that is over the life of your account. Say in the past two years you payed for items with your Paypal account and you have spent a total of $1,800 , now you find a deal on that Harley machine $ 300.00 and the guy only takes Paypal ( You canot Buy it). They make you upgrade your account that now has no limit with a bank number and when you sell something you pay the 3.5% or 4.5% fee.
I do not think you can accept Paypal buyers without the upgraded account, go open small cecking account just for this, Paypal uses your bank account as proof you are who you are. Then when you pay for something use Paypal other fund options that can go to a credit card not you checking.

I honestly dunno how some ppl stay in bussiness selling 3,4,5 dollar items. ebay charges so much to list then final value fee. then paypal takes their chunk out.... I sold a small priced item last year. I was happy with what it sold for. but after ebay fees and paypal fees, I only got to keep 31 cents... and that was because I overcharged the poor lad on shipping....

PayPal charges $.30 plus 2.9% on sales up to $3,000. So, as Greg says, even though they charge $.45 on $5.00, the charge on $75, for example, would be $2.47 which looks more reasonable as the flat $.30 charge becomes less a factor.

I love PayPal. Beats the socks out of the old days before PP, when we had to purchase money orders to buy or we sold something and received a bad check, etc.

Slotter brings up a good point from a buyers perspective. Use to the buyer paid $.25 for a stamp, $.75 for a money order and 2 weeks for the item to arrive. So paypal has impacted the sellers return, but has provided a method of much better customer service.

But everyone is right. The $.30 transaction fee cuts way to much into small transactions!

    Smile Re: PayPal

almost all of my ebay sales are paid by paypal.

much easier, instant payment and no running to the bank to deposit checks or worry about them bouncing.

i usually don't bid on an item unless they take paypal.

by the way a stamp is now 37 cents!!!!!

I hate to say it, but unless the seller takes paypal, I will not bid (there is always someone selling the same item that does). The old way just isn't worth it to me. It is nice that more and more internet stores are also taking paypal.

Yeah, I was just citing costs back before Paypal. Money orders are probably a $1 now.
