This has happened to me a few times, the rule I live by now. I don't ever use a Bank/Check card. The information gets stolen at gas stations very easily. Especially if you use it at the pump. There are these devices that the criminals put into the gas pumps. They read your card, and then your pin number, and that information get transmitted either thru cellular or wifi connections to them. If I need to get gas, I'll use one credit card, and keep track of that. Gas pumps are the #1 stealer of information now. Your best to go inside, especially if you don't trust the pump/gas station. Some stations now put security tape on the pump card readers so you know it somewhat secure.

well, I just heard on the news that local Goodwill's were hacked in July and credit card info stolen.
that has to be how my info was stolen!!!
they just went to a new credit card system last week, i bet that's why!!!
