Default I made a cool music server for my game room

This project actually started some years ago when I ripped all my CD's into MP3's. I and an old computer which wasn't good for anything anymore except playing audio files so I used it for several years. I coupled the audio out jack to the input of an external HI FI audio amp. It was rather clunky to boot up and it took a lot of space with the CRT monitor. I did an upgrade sometimes last year with new computer and flat screen along with a roller ball mouse. The system was still klunky to boot up and the mouse was a bit odd to work.

I began looking at Craigs List for older touch screen monitors. Even the old salvaged point of sale monitors were over $100. Too much for my cheapness.

I realized I had an older Samsung 10" tablet which could hold up to about 30gigs of music files. Enough space to hold my favorite files. Maybe I could come up with something.

Pine is very easy to work with so I used a 1" thick stock of shelving material. I made a basic frame and routed it out with my Dremel tool so the tablet screen would fit flush with the surface of the frame. I drilled a couple holes and made button extenders so I could still work the power and volume controls. Then I made another frame out of thin pine and painted it dark brown. The frame is held in with pins and easily removes.
I screwed the pine frame to the wall and routed the USB and audio jack through a small hole in the wall. The audio amplifier is kept on the other side of the wall in a utility closet.

It's pretty cool and works very well, and the tablet is not damaged in any way. When I want music I just push the button on the top of the frame, flip through the selection and start it playing. Check out the pics:

Very well done! I have been working on a similar set up for a friend of mine's game room. I have been using his game room as a test for what I eventually set up in mine.

    Nice setup!
What app or apps do you use to play the music?
I don't recognize the one in the pics.
I am looking to make something similar to replace an older Windows PC with an external HD with 250GB of music files.

    Hi Raymondy.
I tried maybe a dozen or so Android apps and this is the one I found most suitable for this type setup, Fusion for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...com.lava.music

My main music app requirements is software which is so simple anyone can just walk up and use it without training. Software which does not rely so heavily on using the "back" button. A program which album covers are large, visible and can be flipped through. Fusion is far from perfect but it's the best I could find. I don't recall which program is photographed in my post but it isn't Fusion. That one had a nice looking GUI but like most music software, a person unfamiliar with it would need to stand there and figure it out which is not acceptable. I think Fusion had enough features to fit the bill without over-complicating things.

    Thanks Steve
I have the same needs as far as anyone just walking up and playing some songs easily.
I am currently using a Windows based program called Album Player - AlbumPlayer - Jukebox for Music Collector and Audiophile
It really works good and I have always tried to find an Android app that works just as well...have tried many different ones and nothing seems to come close, but I do not recall trying Fusion.
I am not going for the touchscreen setup though, I am going to go with a setup that uses this Android TV box - Tronsmart Vega S89 Elite Quad Core Android 4.4 OS TV BOX Amlogic S802 2.0GHz 2G/8G Bluetooth 2.4G wifi XBMC - Black - GeekBuying.com

I just need to pick a TV to finish the job...probably going to get a 19in or 24in TV soon.
The TV box has full size USB ports for the external 250GB HD and wireless keyboard and mouse, it also has a audio-out jack that I will be running through a Yamaha PA system, and I will also be using a custom Android launcher for ease of use for people that do not know Android well.
Right now, I am running through a set of M-Audio powered monitors, which are a really nice set of speakers with plenty of power - M-AUDIO - Studiophile AV 40 - Monitor Speakers for Professional-Quality Media Creation
I will check out that Fusion and let you know how it works.

Cool. I have been looking for the perfect app which so far have not found to run a jukebox. I have a nice alteec lancing boombox that I want to frame out and drop my ipad into to use but thus far not all apps are easy to use. I have purchased several and all have good features but also have some quirks that take away from the experience. I want something that lets guests use it just like a real jukebox but needs to be self explanatory and easy to search or browse but still searching for the perfect app... If anybody has any ipad jukebox app recommendations I would love to hear them....
