Default Best Method to Insert Brass Pin?

All - I am cleaning a Nishijin B that I got and noticed that two brass pins were missing in the playfield. I have a bunch of extra brass pins that are the same size from a hangar queen machine but noticed a slight screw-like twist to the bottom third of the pins. My question is: what is the best way to insert the pins without damaging the smooth heads? A small hammer with a cloth to protect it? Pliers? I didn't see any postings for this but could have easily missed it. I am sure there is a simple way but I didn't want to mess-up the existing hole (i.e., make it bigger) but futzing around with it too much. Any help would be appreciated!

The spiral brass nails are the standard. They won't take much force since there's already a hole there but its still smart to use a brass headed hammer. Once the nails are polished they'll look like new.

I have tapped in thousands and thousands into machines I restore. Takes about three light taps with a hammer and you are done.

I use a brass headed hammer. Then when done hit the head with a little polish and you won't know.

    100 machines and counting...

I use a Leather Rawhide Mallet as the soft head won’t damage the nails.
