I've noticed the phishing scams are getting much more sophisticated in recent months. I have been working in the IT industry for over 20 years now, and I scrutinize any email from banks or other financial oriented companies very closely. I have received a few emails lately that have looked totally legit and genuine, but after "looking under the rug" so-to-speak, I have found that they were not as legit as they appeared.

Be very careful out there - these scams are getting much harder to detect!!

Never open any attachments and don't click on any links in email messages (unless they are from a known source, such as a family member or friend). If you need to access your account from any financial institution, always type in the web address of the institution and access your account that way, if you need to.

I hope nobody from here get's hacked through a malicious email or scammed on a bogus call.

I just refuse to give my bank my email addres, and if they call me, I tell them to leave a marker on my account and I will call them back. If they ring me up asking for my password information, I tell them, they should tell me my password first, as I don't know who they are.

Paypal will never ever call you. Dude - get that number, send it to PP and maybe you'll prevent some other poor schlub from falling for their scam!

You just got to do this next time they call. Just make sure the speaker is right next to the phone.

I just got the email scam, I removed the links in blue and highlighted in red the tip off to the scam.
FYI forward suspicious-looking emails to spoof@paypal.com

Confirm your bank account with PayPal

    Hello My Name,
On 12/31/1969, you linked your bank account (x-xx62) to your PayPal account. This email is just a reminder that you're not done yet.
Take a few moments to confirm your bank account. After you do, you can shop online and send money using your bank account.

PayPal has sent 2 small deposits to your bank account.

Check your bank account in 3-5 days for the deposit amounts.
Log in to your PayPal account, click Confirm Bank Account, and enter the amounts.

Confirm your bank account to get Verified. It's that easy.

When you're Verified, you can send payments from your bank account even when your PayPal balance is zero. Plus, you increase the sending limits on your PayPal account. You'll love the security, too. We don't share your financial information with sellers when you pay.
If you don't remember linking your bank account, let us know right away. It's important to let us know because it helps us make sure no one is accessing your account without your knowledge.
