    Another project machine...

Thought I'd post as it goes along because this will take a while and get put on the back burner a few times before it is done.

It started as a regular clean up; discovered this machine had a broken rocker and it's not common.
Didn't think I'd find a replacement part soon.

Next came some general clean up.
    Nails half done.jpg

I'm going to use one of my counters / games and have a few extra outputs on the Arduino.
Added this micro servo to open two tulips on demand. Used braided fishing line for the "wire".
This is intentionally slack and allows the original tulip lever to act as it always did.
Kind of a "Quarter" power flash?

Here are some additional progress photos.

As you can see, this machine has a very attractive play field with no water damage.

The sides and ramps are made of wood pieces 5/8" thick on this machine by 3/4" tall.

Full Cyclic Back 1.jpg Full Cyclic Back 2.jpg

The portions of wood exposed to pachinko balls were covered with metal tape.

A plastic diverter was required to divert pachinko balls into the shooting tray because the OEM piece protruded about an 1/8"into the back and pachinko balls got hung up there.

    Plastic Diverter.jpg

Portions of two pieces of wood were cut on 45 degree angles to direct the pachinko balls into the shooting tray.
Portions of the top ramp were removed to allow pachinko balls to exit the playfield main drain and to allow enough room under the top ramp.

    Ramp to Shooting Tray.jpg

The micro switch and airplane hinge are for the counter. The airplane hinge is just to prevent pachinko balls from contacting the switch directly.

    Smile LEDs & Cabinet

    Got a little more done.

The LEDs are held in place temporarily with tape and then covered with a piece of plastic.

The cabinet houses the game and has a top marquee that is still being roughed in.
The marquee light is a LED strip.

The game / counter (and the marquee) will have one on / off switch and run off one power supply
    with 2 DC outputs: 5.1V and 12V.

There are 2 additional 8x8 LED matrix displays in the marquee that are not in the picture.

There are separate speakers that are not in the picture.

    Smile Cabinet

The cabinet is intended to look more arcade "ish", as opposed to furniture.Just my preference, nothing wrong with anyone elses cabinets.

Cabinet Front Off.jpg Cabinet Front On.jpg Cabinet Side Off.jpg Cabinet Side On.jpg

Think the material is called melamine. I like it because scratches cover up with marker.
The blue edge is vinyl T molding. The cabinet does have hard rubber feet.

This game can sit on a shelf / table or can be wall mounted.

The base of the cabinet is wide enough (16") to not tip over with the pachinko machine front panel open 90 degrees with a fully loaded reward tray, modern machine.

The pachinko machine is tilted back about 2 degrees; the sides of the cabinet are parallel to the machine.

The pachinko machine's door is recessed about 1/2". This allows the door to be pulled open from the side.

The cabinet's marquee light is a 12V LED strip. There are also two 8x8 LED matrix displays in the marquee. A jackpot triggers a jackpot song and a LED light sequence.

    Marquee and Game.jpg

This pachinko machine also has a servo to open two tulips and a LED sweep.

My curiosity is getting the best of me. I use RTA cams and pins for my melamine assemblies. Are you using pocket screws or cleats? This is a terrific arcade style cab. Really like the vinyl down the sides and the control panel. It's fellas like you that show me how much I have to learn about this hobby.

I'm using cleats. Without using google, can't tell you what a RTA cam is.

I like your cabinet ( and many other members cabinets! ). Your cabinet is a fine piece of furniture and IMHO is exactly what most people desire.

My preference is more of an arcade look, you might be able to see the pinball and MAME games in the background of my basement...

These pictures were not really meant for cleat details but you get the idea.

I learned a long time ago that there are many solutions to one problem when building cabinets. Best not to grind axes but appreciate and acknowledge good work when you see it. I see it here. The arcade look is great and I may incorporate it some day just not right now for me. here is a pic of the cam locks i mentioned. I have access to some pretty sophisticated equipment that make this feasible for me to use economically while creating a cabinet tha can be assembled by almost anyone

I will continue to enjoy your posts. There is an incredible amount to learn.

Smile Behind the Scenes - Back of house

This might look like a bowl of spaghetti; but it's actually organized and easy to break down via rectangular connectors.

This machine is done now and ready for eBay...

    4 Power Supply.jpg 4 Arduino Games and Counter.jpg 4 Games Counter & Marquee 1.jpg 4 Games Counter & Marquee 2.jpg

The entire game is controlled by one illuminated On / Off button on the front panel.
The speakers have a regular 120V AC power cord and are plugged into the dangling white extension cord.
The power supply provides 12V DC for the Arduino, 12V DC for the LED marquee light strip, 5V DC for the servo and 5V DC for the LED matrix displays.

The Arduino PCB shield has a piggyback MP3 player with a mini SD card. The source code and lots of documentation is also on the SD. The code can be updated via USB cable.

I got to see this thing in real life and play it. It is more amazing in real life than it is in the pics. The workmanship is really professional.

I'm with Max. Stick a coin slot on it, and make a few bucks before you sell it.

You definitely got the arcade look that you wanted. I've used melamine before, it's pretty tough stuff. And I like the use of T molding. Do you use a router to cut for that?

    Nicely done.

Yes, one uses a router bit. This is similar to the router bit used.
