Makes you wonder if it is missing all of the rear components, or that there is no cover over said components. Was there ever?

I see that statement a lot while browsing the Craigslist ads. In many of the ads, the pictures show the machine is complete, but I believe the sellers are under the impression that there was a back cover to hide all of the mechanics at one time. They are unaware that these machines were mounted in the wall and never had a back cover.

I was thinking about that for a bit. And so I wondered why do all of my moderns have pseudo-covers on the back? They cover less than half of the electronics back there , but I wonder why they are there at all? They seem to be covering just below the hopper. Is this to prevent any damage to the video display and circuit boards, should a ball feeder go catty-wampus?
Or when they swing the pachinko out of the frame in the parlor?

Maybe its a psychological thing. That as pachinkos changed from mechanical to electronic, the cost increased, and consequently, so did the buyer's expectation of quality. That the reason that a modern has so many covers is because that buyers have frowned down on machines that looked bare bones. That buyers felt cheated. Of course there are security measures on some circuit boards, and the amount of plastic to enclose those is ludicrious.
