    Default Nishijin Model "C" Hippos

So here's my latest find, just picked it up today. I found it on Craigslist and was hoping it would be a parts donor machine, but once again it's too cool to tear apart. It's a Nishijin Model "C" with hippos in the center attraction. It appears that there's a piece missing from the bottom center of the attraction. There's a cover missing from the seesaw mechanism, but it's otherwise in overall good condition. I was looking for a machine with a clean door assembly to replace a mildly pitted one for my Nishijin Model "B" refurb project... to my surprise the door assemblies are actually the same. I'm getting too picky with the quality of the chrome parts and beginning to suspect that finding a door with no pitting will be more trouble than it's worth. So let me ask all of you, would mild chrome pitting detract from the potential sale of a refurbished/rebuilt machine?

The thing that is really neat is the machine was built in 1978 which is the same year Hungry Hungry Hippos came out.

Aluminum foil works great! I actually cleaned a chrome door frame on one of my resto projects with a mix of vinegar and water and mildly scrubbed it with aluminum foil. It worked out just fine, except for where there was major pitting and rust, but that's damage too far advanced. Some chrome polish and it looked even better. The Hippos and my other machines in need of chrome cleaning will get similar treatment.
