Cool Packin' up and movin' on out

    Well,

Time has come for change around here. My dad's job has just been relocated to Columbus, Indiana; and with not much other options out here were basically forced to move back there. We won't be living in Columbus itself but actually in the Greenwood area (south of indy). Anyways the past few days we have been preparing to list our house and stage one is to de-clutter. And boy do we have a lot of clutter (and machines. )

So the middle of last week we got one of those pod things dropped off for stage 1 of our stuff. We plan we will probably need another unit and then the movers will take the rest. So this weekend we have been going crazy to pack the first unit (can't have it sit in our driveway too long or our neighbors start to complain.). We planned to put a few machines in the first unit and then a lot of other stuff from our garage and the rest of the house. So we started to lay the machines in and figured we could get a few more than we expected. We planned for 9 machines across and 3 rows high; but ended up getting 11-12 across and 3 rows high. Then we started looking at what we had to pack and figured we could fit another stack of 3 in-front of that one. Each "stack" has 35 machines in it, and this unit we were able to put 70 machines in. You may say that is a lot but we still have another 40-50 left in the garage and they will go in unit #2. We ended up packing them the same way we hauled them down from a member in Nor-Cal (actually used some of the same wood from that trip). Anyway the unit was just under 8ft wide so cut the boards to length, put 2 on top and one of the front and a screw in each board for each machine. Needless to say when they are all put together as a unit they ain't going nowhere. Oh and for those curious we figured each stack of machines weighs around 1,000lbs give or take a few 100lbs. Tomorrow this unit will be picked up and taken to their storage place for 6 months or so and then shipped back east. We are most likely going to end up back there in July at some point (most likely early July).

Anyways I attached some pictures below. And I will keep everyone up to date on the move.

    -Max

Great job of packing! I've got several cord wood stacks myself!

Not in a big hurry. It has been low 80's here. We never had a chance to get a winter here (don't think our high has dropped below 60 in the past month or two.)

Before you folks freezing in the cold get upset, might I remind you that California is officially in a drought. (Hence why Mxfaiman is making a smart move)

What follows is an official statement from the Office of the Governor of the State of California, Gerald Brown:

"It is with consternation I announce that from this day forward, water rationing is in effect state-wide. The continued mis-management of water resources and inaction of reclamation initiatives has brought California to an official status of "Drought".

This is signified by a Code Red in the State Water Content Alert Level, or SWCAL. Previously it was Code Orange. There are 5 color-coded levels of SWCAL status:

Blue Waves - Reserved for future major earthquakes. The state is underwater.

Green Leaf - Environmentalist are content and crops are growing.

Yellow Unhappy Face - The river delta is backed up a little, so don't flush as often.

Rotting Orange - Hmm, maybe we should do something about a lack of water in the farm belt. Nah, pipe it all off to Los Angeles.

Red Dirt - We are seriously F'ed!

Under Code Red, the following restrictions are hereby enforced:

    1. You may not water your lawn, garden or plants. On the bright side, you also won't have to mow the dead grass. Start a Zen rock garden, like Linda Ronstadt and I did. They didn't call me "Governor Moonbeam" because I was banging her. Yeah, even the pot plants.

    2. Swimming pools will be drained and the water reused for non-potable purposes. You will share your swimming pool water. The state is not liable for pool liner fracture and collapse.

    3. Each resident will be issued one "Save Water, Keep California Brown" 5-gallon bucket, which is to be used for water consumption purposes. Please have friends or family properly recycle the bucket after you no longer use it.

    4. The 5-gallon bucket is your weekly allotment of non-potable water. Use it sparingly. Seriously, we are not kidding. Look, I might have been a hippie doper in the 70's, but I am not high right now.

    5. Clean hands are the devils tools. If you must remove debris, use waterless hand sanitizer.

    6. Bathing in all forms is outlawed. However, enforcement of personal hygiene is suspended. Please stock-up on antiperspirants and deodorants. Its gonna stink.

    7. Regardless of the frequency of use or contents, toilets will be flushed once a week with a portion from the 5-gallon bucket. Constructing an outhouse or latrine without permit, environmental survey and city approval is punishable by a $5000 fine and 3 years imprisonment.

    8. Each household is permitted one gallon of utility water per day. The sole purpose of this water is for human consumption. Non-humans are allotted water from the 5-gallon bucket.

    9. Recreational and non-essential uses of water are subject to fine, imprisonment, and confiscation of all property involved. Don't even think of washing your RV. No, on second thought, go ahead, do that. A road trip in an expanding 40-footer would do me good. Sure beats the VW Hippie Bus with flowers and peace signs.

    10. Persons suffering from Dysentery, Salmonella, and similar bacterial or viral infections will be relocated to state controlled health camps for containment and observation. Next of kin will not be informed.

As Governor, it is my role to steward the State through this troubled time. After my term, it will be somebody else's mess to clean up. Thank you."

What?? Only two Pachinko machines in the home???

I think it's going to take a lot more than that to get people interested in your home.

Agent doesn't like them. They didn't like any of our bathroom rugs either, wound up finding them in the shower.

Oh and there is still about 20 of them left in the garage.
