There has to be a substitute. I've used Novus 2 that cleans great and polishes but it does leave a powdery residue if any's left behind.

cell cleaner is a foaming spray that is used on original cells.. when used correctly it will not leave water stains on the cells.. its really good stuff and will take of the thickest dirt.. some times it takes 2 applications to get everything clean...

it will work on the new vinyl ones as well.. but i doubt there is any real risk of creating water stains with the replacement cells

We use Novus on our pinball machine playfields, makes them clean, shiny and fast!!

Can't remember if it's been used on our pachinko cells though, but it will have been used on the outside plastic areas

it's always best to test first

It is a paste product and I put some on a piece of old t shirt and use my finger push the shirt around. For hard to reach areas I have some long qtips. It removes grime fast and is a staple for pinball owners to remove the same type of grime.
I'd think simple green or anything similar would work too but Novus also polishes. And as Hanabi said it will bring out the shine on any plastic.

Someone mentioned Carnu-B | Car Wax, Metal Shine, Shampoo and More yellow product to me a while ago and I tried it. Works great, no stains, no brains. Just wipe on, and wipe off. Called them up, they have 50% off when you buy in a 12 bottle case, about 110 bucks, so locals may want to pool their money and buy in volume to save. I highly recommend it, literally wipe on and wipe off. Great for pinball PFs as well.

Problem with products like Novus and Mill Wax is they have abrasives and clay powder cutting/rubbing compounds in them that do leave powder residue behind. Other products do as well, various compounds, various earth substances (clay mostly). Use them sparingly and they do the job well, too much and residue is left behind.

I forgot to mention the potential for residue above . I just use enough to do a few square inches at a time and then go back with a dry cloth over that same are. If you do that, there's not much if any residue and regular cleaners just don't bring out the shine-especially on vintage cels like Novus does. If you have just a cel or two then I'd go with Novus or similar. If its a bunch then I'd use something easier especially if the cel's not that dirty to begin with.
i mainly use Novus on pins after the magic eraser and 99% alcohol regimen on the playfield followed by multiple coats of carnauba wax.

Which Novus are we talking about? Novus 1 (Clean & Shine) doesn't have any abrasives. 2 & 3 (Light and Heavy Scratch Removers) do. At least according to the company web site.

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking you meant for originals for the reason you mentioned on the new vinyl ones will not stain the same way but wanted to make sure I understood what it was.

    Thx

Novus 2 is my go-to for any type of cleaning and polishing for pinballs and pachinkos. Novus 3 is considerably more abrasive and Novus 1 is labeled as a plastic cleaner/ brings out the shine-it has no abrasive.
There are other manufacturers of similar products and may be just as good but I've never tried any other brand so I can't comment on them.
