    Default Stand your grounds law

Florida has the Stand your grounds law.

and some people think they can just shoot anybody, in Tampa a 71 year old retired cop got into an argument with someone texting in a movie theatre, the arguement escalated and the texter threw his popcorn at him.

the retired cop shot and killed him!! he said he was in fear and felt his life was endangered.

    this is just crazy

I wonder if he will get off like George Zimmerman did!!

I have no idea when it morphed into "stand your ground"... but when I read into those laws years back, folks pushed them as the "castle doctrine" - you know... your home, your castle. If someone barges into your home with a deadly weapon, you no longer would have the legal duty to run away. Now playing tough guy to a handful of Orville Redenbacher's (cancerous butter flavoring non-withstanding) is just ridiculous.

A (retired or otherwise) cop overreacting to "assault" (or a-salt and a-butter har har) ... not quite as surprised. Kinda long after retirement to still be on edge, tho.. huh?

I heard about this story this morning on the radio. I have to admit there have been times when I wanted to shoot rude people in the movie theater. They did not deserve that though. People are getting crazier and crazier. That's why I really prefer staying home.
