i find it interesting that it is referred to as "handmade" does that mean something different in Japanese culture??

Handmade is probably just the typical less than accurate translation.
Its been about 4 years since this model has been on YJA that I've seen. It has one more payout option than most arrangeballs and that is the 4 corners. Just guessing but I'd say that the 4 numbers below the matrix are the corners. Many machines duplicate the unusual or extra payout scheme next to the main set of 16 numbers.
