It looks like it might be a Naval Academy Cadet hat insignia, not sure of the time frame though.
1 star above the anchor would mean a Senior Chief Petty Officer I believe.
US Navy hats have USN across the anchor and Coast Guard hats have a shield in the middle of the anchor.

My father went to the Naval Academy in the 50s and I have a picture of him wearing a hat with the same insignia but without the star

See the bottom of this page for the cadet hat insignia
The new hats look the same.

Yep no stars are for chiefs, one star is a senior chief and two denote a master chief. Chief's anchors are also "fouled" which means they depict a line entangled around the anchor. The anchors in the pic aren't fouled and are a different shape than anchors now but regs do change.
Not sure, I didn't spend any time in the fleet and we rarely wore uniforms with insignia.
Could be naval academy or coasties?

Hi-Nice score on the sterling candlestick! The hat device is from an older U.S. Coast Guard Academy Service Cap, worn by the cadets during their 4 years at the Academy. No real value that I'm aware of. I was stationed there and a lot seemed to get thrown away upon graduationwhen they got their commission and Ensign uniform.

Nice ad-glad to see the bid. Who do you use for picture hosting? I'm thinking about doing some listings. The last time I listed was before verizon cancelled the free web space. Thanks

I use Ebay to host my pictures. I have an old sony mavica camera that uses floppy disks

all my pictures here and on ebay are taken with that camera. its very easy for me to take a few pictures and just stick the floppy in my external 3 1/2 inch computer drive to download them.

Thanks. They really look good. By the way, I'm a Goodwiller too, up here in New England. Got some really neat stuff through the years. In my sixties now and I keep saying I've got to start selling more of it...
