    Default Spinner Restoration

    Gentlemen:

I thought I had a line on someone who could do this, but he quit responding to my emails:

Does anyone know someone who can recondition spinnes? I am talking about the paint on the outside. I'd like to bring mine up to snuff, but don't have the expertise to do it myself.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike Pennell

I have tried before. It is a very tricky thing to do. But the trick doesn't become painting them the trick is installing them so they don't chip again.

Send me a PM with a photo of the spinner I am just starting to recondition spinners, I am stripping off the old paint and repainting them not just touching up the paint. I don't think I am a pro yet but I am willing to try.

The spinners you did on the Kachi kachi Elex restoration for me came out beautifully ImageUploadedByTapatalk1389468214.608374.jpg

Sorry for the delay on this. I can't figure out how to upload these images using the PM system.

    These represent two separate machines.

Let me know if you think you can do this. I will gratefully pay you for your troubles.

Those spinners from Cardwii look great. Spinner restoration seems easy enough but its harder than it looks. If it were me, I'd strip the paint, prime and repaint with the back ground/main color. Someone suggested chucking the spinner in a drill to apply the other colors evenly which sounds like a good idea. It may take two people though. One to control the trigger for a reasonable speed and the other to apply the paint. A dremel will hold whatever speed needed but I don't know of it would be slow enough? I've never tried to run mine slow.

All I can say is, I can try. Send me a email and we can work something out.

That's what the lathe is for.

Could probably use an old record player.

I new around here so maybe I'm clueless. Why not mask the painted area and spray paint vs spinning and using a brush? Quarters, Nickles, dimes or washers are good mask.

here is a picture of three sets i have recently restored. the front row are factory painted ones. mine are the back three rows. what i di is sandblast the old paint off and use a paint' primer combination paint for the base color. here i used a light blue and a light pink. what i use is a small section of 2x4 with the nails put in and i cut the heads off the nails and then put the spinners on the nails.other than the original layer that is spray paint i use paint markers. you can get them at walmart for $2 each. i steady my hand against another nail and put the marker on the spinner where i want it painted. then i take a long skinny rod, put it in the openings of the spinner and rotate it while holding my pen steady. i do it in two coats. and to prevent any chipping later i clear coat them when i am done. it also gives them a nice shine. they are not perfectly identical but you really need to look close to see. and they are not what i would consider a total restoration piece but very nice all the same!
